IPS officer Umesh Kumar, who became notorious with his involvement in a forgery case, has landed in fresh trouble.

AP State Cooperative Union chairman and commissioner Naresh told journalists that he had received complaints from some members of the Rock View Enclave Housing Society requesting for an inquiry into the allotment of plots made to the family members of Umesh Kumar.

Since the members are IPS officers, the Union has sought permission from the Government for conducting the inquiry, Naresh said.

The issue goes back to 2001 when the officers and men of the anti-Naxal wing Greyhounds formed into a cooperative society called ‘Rock View Enclave Housing Society’. The society purchased more than nine acres of land and divided it into 48 plots.

The allegation is Umesh Kumar got allotted four plots in his name and in the name of his family members including wife and daughter. Cyberabad police wing conducted a probe and reported the plots were allotted to his family in clear violation of the rules of the AP Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Act.

As per the rules, a family can get only one plot and each individual should submit an undertaking that he or she belongs to a separate family while getting the plots allotted. This rule was violated by Umesh Kumar family members.

The police inquiry report said that after the plots were allotted, 16 plots were taken away by the Government for its Outer Ring Road project.  The government later allotted three acres of land alternately near Samshabad to the society. Again, Umesh and his family members were given plots there.

Police officials, who are members of the society, now complained to the Union to inquire into the irregularities.

Some police officials also complained to the government that Umesh Kumar bought several properties in Mahaboobnagar and Visakhapatnam districts in the name of his family members with different addresses but failed to show them in the 2010 property statement filed by the officer. (J)
