Most of the candidates who were expecting that they would be allotted the local centre were shocked to find out that they had to travel long distances to appear for the test.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasada Rao is said to have allegedly asked authorities to cancel the examination centre at a government college in Srikakulam in order to hold his son's wedding there. The wedding reception was attended by at least 50,000 guests, said a report. As a consequence of shifting the examination centre, the students had to travel long distance to appear for competitive exam for the post of village revenue assistants (VRA) and village revenue officers (VRO). Reports reveal that the college compound wall was demolished to make way for the entry of vehicles, while the stadium adjacent to the college premises was dug up to set up tents and dais for the reception. "All the top officials, from the local revenue divisional officer to the municipal commissioner, personally supervised the arrangements for the party to please the minister," said K Appala Naidu, local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader.

"Srikakulam being a small town, the Government Degree College is the major centre for hosting competitive exams in the district, as it can accommodate more than 2,000 candidates at a time. "But this time the local revenue authorities cancelled the examination centre on administrative grounds. Most of the candidates who were expecting that they would be allotted the local centre were shocked to find out that they had to travel long distances to appear for the test," said Srinivasa Murthy, a local resident.  "We are going to move the human rights commission in this regard," said TDP leader Naidu.
