Authorities Sleep on Precautionary Measures Wake up to Mishaps

Authorities wake up only when an incident takes place that draws attention and assumes importance in the news.  The Transport Department failed in controlling the speed limits of the private bus operators.  Volvo buses with a speed of 100 to 150 kilo meters per hour just need an airway but not the road way as the road conditions do not permit a vehicle to cross a speed of 60 kmph.  And the road conditions still deteriorated with the recent cyclone, rains and floods.

Speed Governance Device locks a vehicle’s fuel pump when it exceeds 70 kmph.  It costs Rs.15000/- that made the private passenger and goods vehicles to hesitate to fix it.  The device is already fitted in majority of the RTC buses.  The proposal of fitting those devices in all the transport vehicles is not getting implemented.

The shocking incident that took place on the Bangalore Hyderabad highway at Kothakota 140 km from Hyderabad today is beyond doubt that it is due to speeding the vehicle beyond limits that made 45 passengers burnt alive when they are in deep sleep.  Eye witnesses and circumstantial evidences corroborate the fact that it is the negligence of the driver that made it hit the road divider which in turn not only made the fuel tank burst but caused an inferno as the friction sent sparks to the fuel leaked out.

In the occurrences of accidents everyone’s side of story will be different but all will be moved away by it.  In the road accident occurred today many of the charred passengers were beyond recognition.  Only DNA tests make them recognize them for which forensic experts went to the place of incident.  The relatives of those passengers wailed for not able to have a last look of their beloved ones.  The Authorities have asked the relatives to reach the place of accident to give their blood samples to recognize their own people before 5.00 pm so that it can be finished.

It is sure that the incident fades away in few days for the Authorities to go into deep slumber again.
