A Hotel that survived Hudhud cyclone

The entire Visakhapatnam city was critically hit Hudhud cyclone but a five star hotel and that too very near to the beach survived with minimal damages. The star hotel is, Novotel on the Beach Road and the hotel was constructed taking account of the weather conditions of Vizag. The managing director of Novotel hotel Prabhu Kishore revealed the secret behind this.

“Staying so near to the sea and being to get out with minimal damages is something we planned before. However, our cafetaria, gymnasium were hit by the cyclone. We have used double glazed glass units with fins which bared the wind at 200 kilometres speed. We were worried initially but it worked for us. More importantly, our guests are absolutely fine and safe. There were about 40 foreigners in our hotel and none of them were affected with this cyclone,” said Prabhu Kishore.

Also he added that this double glazed glass is bit costly but on a long term basis and especially while lying at coastal areas, constructions are needed to be done as per the weather conditions of the city. The Novotel hotel manager was quite happy that the hotel had low property loss and is functioning as usual from the next day.
