Turkey bans Twitter

Social networking site Twitter was blocked in Turkey country as it ignored court orders to remove content related to a government corruption scandal. Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said “we’ll eradicate Twitter. I don’t care what the international community says. Everyone will witness the power of the Turkish Republic,” minutes before banning it.

Erdogan was allegedly involved in corruption and few vital information was shared in Twitter by unknown persons. The government approached the court to remove the content but Twitter ignored all the requests. With no other option Erdogan imposed ban on Twitter and also threaten to ban Facebook as well as YouTube.

After the ban, the hashtag #TwitterisblockedinTurkey went viral and is currently trending too.
