Cine Actress Anjali Passes Away

Anjali-1The Old Famous Actress Anjali Devi (86) passed away at Vijaya Hospital in Chennai.  Anjanli Devi was her name in the cinema industry.  She was first Anjamma, then Anjani Kumari and became famous as Anjali Devi who was born in July 1928 at Peddapuram in East Godavari District.  

 

Anjali-1Anjali Devi had been ailing for some time was advised by doctors to take rest.  She was admitted in the hospital one week ago.  She died today while getting medical treatment in Vijaya hospital.  

Anjali-1Anjali Devi started her acting career with stage plays.  She acted with all famous heroes of those times like NTR, ANR and others in Telugu.  She acted in about 500 films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi languages.  She earned fame as Sita in Lava Kusa.  She not only acted as a heroine but also acted in supporting roles and elderly roles as she grew old.  

 She was wife of famous cine Music director, producer and lyricist P. Adinarayana Rao.   

Anjali-1Her famous movie Anarkali and Suvarna Sundari were remade in Hindi.  Her role in Devata against Gemini Ganeshan in Tamil, Sati Savitri against Mahipal in Hindi and Lava Kusa against NTR are memorable.  She acted in Bhakta Prahlada as a helpless mother to Prahlada.  She also cted in character roles with SV Ranga Rao and Gummadi.   

Anjali-1Anjali Devi although acted in 1936 in Raja Harish Chandra, she took lead roles from the movie Balraju in 1948.  Among the movies the popular roles she enacted were Keelu Gurram, Anarkali, Devata, Chenchu Lakshmi, Jaya Bheri, Lava Kusa, Rangula Ratnam, Bhakta Prahlada, Bhaka Thukaram etc.  She played an elderly role with NTR in Badi Panthulu in which the couple after the retirement faces problems losing control over the household. 

Anjali-1All of Anjali Devi’s family members have gone for studies and settling in foreign countries.  Out of her family members, her granddaughter Saila Rao acted in only one film but after that she too left India to live abroad.  Anjali Devi expresses her dissatisfaction about the current generation films in which heroines are not given proper respect.   

 The body of Anjali Devi is still in the hospital.
