262 raped victims await justice in AP

Pathetic situation emerged in the state after noting that nearly 262 victims awaited justice for want of DNA reports. The irony of the issue is that the state is almost the mother of forensic labs with the centre recognizing Hyderabad as one of the three cities in India to house a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).

Why this delay in justice even after the state housing the best facilities in the area. The main issue that foils the hasten up of affairs is the jurisdiction row, imposed on the labs. The Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) in the city is designated to handle all the cases pertaining to the state. And this is the main reason for the delay, feel experts.

On the other hand, CFSL handles only the cases outside the state. This 'jurisdiction' constraint has delayed the issue further. As per records the APFSL would handle cases pertaining to 2010, this year. That means the even delirious cases need to wait till the lab comes to their rescue.

This is certainly a pathetic situation and the government needs to look into the issue in two ways. One is adding qualified hands on the existing labs and two is diverting certain files to the CFSL. Otherwise justice for the victims would be a distant dream and the accused give a clean slip finding the loop hole.

After the report of assault on a 23-years-old para medical student in the nation's capital and subsequent to her death on account of beastly brutal attack of the perpetrators, warning bells rang across the country. But they are yet to awake the state government, feel critics. (Wishesh AarKay)
