Two persons were detained by the Police in the misapropriation of funds at the sub treasury office of Kanigiri in Prakasam district. As per official sources funds to the tune of Rs 59.80 lakhs has been usurped from the sub treasury. The two arrested were ACTO Baby and Record Assistant Uma Maheswararao. The duo were taken into control today at Kanigiri. Police have also confiscated their assets.

The arrests are made after the Department of Treasuries and Accounts Joint Director/Vigilance K Kanakavalli made an official investigation of the discrepancies in the sub treasury office on Saturday. As per sources various bills were made on false claims and the released funds were misused.

At present the Treasury Management has become much more demanding task, because expenditure commitments of Government are growing much faster than its revenue receipts, resulting in increased pressure on Government Finances, to the unprecedented levels. Treasury Officials at all levels are the vital links in the Government’s delivery systems, and their efficiency and competence would enhance the Government’s overall performance.
