The union home minister P Chidambaram has said that the Centre would respond on demand for formation of Telangana state as soon as possible. The union minister said these statements at his monthly press meet and also in the wake of continuous protest in the parliament demanding the Centre for tabling a bill on Telangana.
He has appealed to MPs from Telangana region including MPs from his party to calm down and let the parliament function smoothly. He has also said that the demand can be discussed.
In a reply to the leader of the opposition, Sushma Swaraj asking the government as to what steps it would took so far on the issue, Chidambaram said that they would respond at the earliest on the issue.
All the discussions pertaining to the issue can be held outside the house, he said. He appealed the leaders to ensure functioning of the house. He has also said that leaders such as Gulam Nabi Azad and Vayalar Ravi were ready for discussions on this issue.
It may be recalled that TRS MPs KCR and Vijayashanti raised slogans in support of statehood for Telangana and sat in the speaker’s well this morning. (Phani)
