Disturbance at PG medical counseling

Chaos took place in PG medical counseling at NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada. The in service candidates lodged protest after the officials at the counseling announced that the left out seats in the counseling would be allotted to the candidates in open category.  They questioned as to how they could transfer the remaining seats that were exclusively allotted for the in service candidates by the State Government.

It may be noted that government gives special quota to the candidates in PG counseling in case the MBBS graduates agree to work for a couple of years for the government at remote areas. Most of the students opt the service as it would brighten the chances of bagging seats in the counseling.

The candidates at the counseling centre created ruckus that made the officials to stop the counseling for about 30 minutes.  Nonetheless, the counseling was resumed after registrar promised the students that the quota for in service would not be transferred and they would remain vacant till in service candidates apply for them.

The government’s idea of asking MBBS graduates to work for a couple of years in rural areas for special quote in PG seats is actually a good idea. This would not only bring experience to the candidate, but will also help the rural people in getting medical care. Further, all MBBS graduates should willfully come forward and serve the people as governments spends lakhs of rupees for producing each doctor. (Phani)
