HC seeks reasons from CBI for not arresting other accused in Emaar case

The high court today cornered the CBI by seeking explanation from it for its alleged partiality in arresting the accused in the Emaar-APIIC land scam. When the bail petitions of Emaar scam accused, IAS officer BP Acharya and Koneru Prasad, came up for hearing, the court asked the CBI counsel for reasons for not arresting the other accused in the case. “You are taking into custody the accused disliked by you and not touching the other accused liked by you. Explain why this is happening?” asked the court. The court sought explanation from the CBI for not issuing red corner notices for the accused Mr Sravan Gupta who has gone underground. The CBI counsel looked red-faced when the court asked him for an explanation for not opposing the anticipatory bail of another accused Tummala Ranga Rao in the CBI court. “You have so far not arrested another accused in the case Mr LV Subramanyam who is an accused in the case. Will you explain the reasons?” asked the court. As the CBI counsel Mr Ravindranath minced his words, the court adjourned the hearing till next Tuesday. (J)
