By polls to the seven vacant assembly seats in AP will be held on March 18, according to an statement issued by the Election Commission.

The Election Commission will hold by polls for four other assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in other states on the same day and the results will be declared on March 21.

The Election Commission on Thursday evening announced the schedule for bypolls to all the seven vacant Assembly seats in the state, of which six are in Telangana. The seventh is the Kovur constituency in Nellore district.

The constituencies in the Telangana area are the Station Ghanpur, Kollapur, and Mahabubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, Adilabad and Kamareddi. While T Rajaiah and Jupally Krishna Rao resigned from their seats of Station Ghanapur and Kollapur constituencies respectively and also from the congress to join the TRS, Mahabubnagar seat has fallen vacant after the death of its independent member Rajeswara reddy who was affiliated to the congress party.

Nagarkurnool seat has fallen vacant after Nagam Janardhan reddy quit TDP and the assembly.  The other two seats of Kamareddy and Adilabad fell vacant after Gampa Govardhan and Jogu Ramanna quit the two seats respectively and the TDP too to join the TRS.

The by poll was necessitated in Kovur after the TDP member Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar reddy switched sides from TDP to YSR Congress party and quit the seat. (JUBS)
