Acharya faints in jail, shifted to Osmania hospital

Senior IAS officer Mr BP Acharya, who was remanded to judicial custody till Feb 15, fainted in the Chanchalguda jail shortly after he was shifted there by the CBI. He was then admitted to the Osmania General Hospital which was nearer to the jail.

A team of doctors has been working on him and doctors said he must have fainted because of exhaustion. “Any how, we are conducting the medical investigations,” they said. The jail staff administered fist aid before shifting him to the hospital.

Acharya was admitted to the NIMS Wednesday morning after he complained of chest pain during his 2-day CBI custody but was discharged from the hospital around 9 PM last night. The
CBI produced him before the special court this morning following which he was sent to the judicial remand till Feb 15.

CBI officials then shifted him to the Chanchalguda jail but a little while after entering the premises, he fainted and collapsed on the ground.

Senior jail superintendent Keshav Naidu told journalists that Acharya would be treated as an ordinary prisoner as there were no instructions from the court to treat him as a special prisoner.
