Cricket News: India Vs New Zealand, Yuvaraj shines, India fails
India fails by a couple of runs to make it to the winning line in the second T20 match played at Chennai. India vs Newzealand match was more of a turf tester for the T20 World Cup 2012, scheduled for next week. But all eyes were on Yuvraj Singh who made a comeback after battling victoriously against cancer. He did fare well in his comeback innings and scored 34 runs. However the spectators had a nail biting finish till the last ball at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, on Tuesday.
Experts predict that with the kind of pertinence shown by Yuvraj, another couple of matches will put him back on the saddle. And that means India is ready to bring home the T20 cup from Sri Lanka. This is the first ever T20 World Cup played in the continent and the island bags the honours.
As far as yesterday's match is concerned New Zealand which was put to bat faltered in the beginning but later with the support of Brendon Mc Cullum who answered the Indians with his willow made a score of 91 valuable runs. The other prominent batsman who shined were Williamson chipped in 28 runs while Ross Taylor made 25 runs. On the whole the Kiwis posted a total of 167/5. among the bowlere it was Irfan Pathan who had the maximum use of the new ball and bagged three wickets. While the other seamers Zaheer Khan and Balaji took a wicket each.
On the other hand Indians stormed in well, but failed to take off on a dull wicket. And they were no better than their counterparts. It was Virat Kohli who made hay while the Kiwis were sweating it out with a 70 run knock. Apart from Yuvvy and Kohli, the other batsman who made a mark was Suresh Raina with 27 runs. The Kiwi bowlers were pretty successful among the lot, that could be said by the way they made the home team fall short by a mere two runs short for victory. Indians wound up after fighting till the last ball with 166/4. Kiwi bowler who need to be commended were Mills and Franklin who hauled two wickets each in good successions before the home team could settle. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
