Nadal not to compete in the London Olympics

On Thursday, the defending champion, Rafael Nadal had pulled out of the London Olympics as he had been facing problems with an injury which has not been disclosed.

He said that he was not in a condition to compete in the Olympic Games to be held in London and hence wouldn't travel along with the Spanish Delegation to participate in the games.

The third ranked tennis player from Spain has not mentioned any injury specifically but it has been known that he had been facing knee problems in the past. On account of an injury to the left knee tendon, he had cancelled a charity match he was to play on July 4th.
After losing in the second round of the Wimbeldon to Lukas Rasol, 100th rank player, which was the most surprising ever result in the history of Wimbeldon, Nadal had not played any matches.

He said that he had been thinking of his fellow companions and that he couldn't afford to be selfish. He added, he has the resposiblity of thinking on behalf of Spain of what's best for it. He expressed that he should give his fellow sportsmen who were better prepared than him an opportunity in the games. He also said that he tried to expedite the preparations and training to be fit for the games, "but it was not to be."
Nadal was the winner of the singles tournament at 2008 Beijing Olympics. He had been declared to be the flag bearer for Spain in the opening ceremony for London Olympics.
He expressed that this decision of denying the opportunity to be the flag bearer for his country in the London Olympics, one of his biggest ambitions, was the saddest and hardest one.
