IPL: Gayle, Villers too much for Pune, B’lore wins

Fantastic match with fabulous efforts by Gayle, Villers and Tiwary who master minded the RCB victory at Bangalore on Tuesday.

This is one of the memorable Indian Premier League matches in the fifth season on Tuesday at Bangalore. The home team valiantly defended their bowlers by their willow power and dominated the visitors in the T20 duel. Royal challengers Bangalore took on Pune Warriors at the M Chinnaswamy stadium Bangalore on Tuesday and won the match. RCB’s Chris Gayle, De Villers and Sourabh Tiwary proved too much for the visitors. RCB wins by six wickets. But this one is not for the weak hearts say commentators as the fortunes took a swing on either side throughout the match.

Initially Pune won the Toss and elected to bat. Their batting was given a substantial start by Robin Uthappa, who opened the innings with a splendid knock of 69 runs. J Ryders and M Samuels shared the willow honors with a contribution of 34 runs each and putting a bold total of 182 runs after losing six wickets. Bowlers on both the sides paid a second fiddle in the match that was out-classed by batsman. For the RCB Vinay Kumar grabbed two wickets. Patel and Vettori snatched just a wicket each.

The RCB that came to bat in the second half was given a good start, by Gayles who anchored the return attack. Gayle knocked a classy 81 runs, a befitting reply to Pune. The knock had imbedded eight hits over the rope for sixes. The ending firework act was enacted by Sourav Tiwary and De villers who scored 36 and 33 runs. But the last over was pulsating for the audience as RCB needed 21 runs to win the match. Most fans gave up hopes but not the batsmen at the crease. On the first ball, Tiwary took a single of Nehra’s over and gave the strike to the South African. De Villers maintained the expectations and blasted three consecutive deliveries of Nehra for a 4, 6, 6 and later took a single. Now the RCB just had one ball and three runs to be made.  Tiwary finished the innings with a mighty sixer.

On the bowling fronts for Pune Warriors Dinda, Nehra, Samuel and Mathews each claimed a wicket as RCB scored 186 for 4 wickets. The match was interesting till the last ball. And probably this is one match that the fans enjoyed amidst tension. Gayle the master blaster of the day stole the show and was fittingly awarded the Man of the match.  (AarKay)
