Asia Cup 2012: India on Image (Re)-Building

On heels is the Asia cup 2012, played from Sunday. It is high time that India tries getting back into the groove to bid Sachin Good bye, victoriously.

Probably the back to back cricketing assignments must have taken the toll on faltering Team India. International ovals, globetrotting, varied climatic conditions and jet links seemed to have taken a deep toll on the team’s dismal performance in England and Australia. But now the team must have been at ease in the Asia Cup that has begun on Sunday at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The four teams that are participating in the tournament are Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and the host Bangladesh. The tournament is held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Today’s match is between the Sri Lanka and India, is the worth watching match in the 7matches series. Asia Cup 2012 will consist of 6 ODI and 1 Final match.

Putting behind the controversies if Team India cruises ahead then victory is not far off. The Indian Squad is missing swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag and pacers Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav, who have been rested for the tournament. But the Pathan brothers are back in the squad. Irfan with his splendid performance at the domestic level forced his way in to the squad.

Sri Lankan team would be riding high on its display in the finals at the Tri nation Common Wealth Bank Series against Australia.  But their earlier match against India at Hobart would still be a horror film for them. Given this psychological advantage India could cruise ahead to retain its dominancy at the continental level. This victory would be a tribute to the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is speculated to play his last version of the Cup. (AarKay)
