SL to release Indian fishermen

The Sri Lankan government has decided to release the five Indian fishermen who were on death sentence for smuggling drugs into the country. All the fisherman hail from Tamil Nadu and were reportedly detained in 2011 and this year on October 30th, the Colombo High court sentenced them to death for alleged drug trafficking.

Indian envoy YK Sinha who recently went to Sri Lanka, held discussions with the government. The envoy also personally met SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message in this issue. The negotiations really worked at last.
