Inflation at 5 year low

The wholesale price inflation [WPI] hit 5 year low in September month at 2.38 per cent and as per government data, the food inflation fell to a nearly two-and-half year low of 3.52 per cent. Vegetables, milk, eggs, meat and fish continued to decline in September, however, the prices of fruits are on the rise.

Inflation in the fuel and power segment which include LPG, petrol and diesel declined to 1.33 per cent as compared to price rise of 4.54 per cent in August. As the international crude oil prices are also in the decline, the government has been slashing the prices of petrol at regular basis. From tomorrow, the petrol prices are further going down by Rs 1 and this could also have impact on the inflation.
