India eligible for Nuclear Club Entry, US May 28, 2016 13:04

The U.S. Has on Friday said that India joining the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is about civilian use of nuclear energy and not an arms race. The U.S. has maintained that India fulfils the requirements for joining the NSG. The U.S. has been supportive of India's membership to the group."This is not about an arms race and it's not about nuclear weapons. This is about the peaceful civil use of nuclear energy and so we would certainly hope that Pakistan understands that," State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at his daily news conference."Look, all I can say is that during his visit to India in 2015, President (Barack) Obama did affirm the US view that India meets missile technology control regime requirements and is ready for membership. But it's a consensus body, so we'll wait and see how the vote goes," Mr Toner said."Deliberations about the prospects of new members joining the Nuclear Supplier Groups are an internal matter among the current members. I don't have much to say beyond that other than that I think they meet regularly," he said."This I not a specific meeting, I believe - not set up to particularly talk about this issue," Mr Toner said."They (Pakistan) have made public their interest, and certainly any country can submit its application for membership. We will consider based on a consensus decision," the spokesman said.Pakistan has been apprehensive about India's entry. The neighbouring country had argued that the move would lead to an arms race in the subcontinent.By Premji

Quota for upper caste poor - Chandrababu Naidu May 28, 2016 11:13

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that his government may extend reservation benefits to the poor among upper castes in the state. The State government is planning to provide reservations to the poor among upper castes. It would soon take up a survey based on which it will decide on the benefits that it should extend to the economically backward among the upper castes, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said in the Mahanadu held at Tirupati.“If there are economically backward people among the upper castes, we may extend reservation benefits to them. We will conduct a survey and find out,” Naidu said.“We will extend reservation benefits to the Kapu community, too. A commission has been constituted to make the suggestions and recommendations. Even for Brahmins, the government is providing financial assistance and skill training for self-employment. There are poor people among the well-to-do castes and upper castes. We have to determine their economic status and give them benefits too, if necessary, we have to rededicate ourselves to the welfare of the people, who have put a lot of confidence in us and brought us to power,’’ Naidu said.“We are providing benefits worth Rs 1,000 crore to the Kapu community. We have constituted a commission to get Kapus included in the backward classes list and extend reservation benefit,” Naidu said."We have no money. We have a lot of problems, but still we are doing everything for the uplift of the poor," he said. "We aligned with BJP only to overcome the troubles caused by the bifurcation (of the state). We still have to get complete support from the Centre. I have taken up these issues with the government bigwigs in New Delhi 18-19 times so far," Naidu pointed out. By Premji

Hiroshima visit by Obama after dropping nulear bomb in 1945 by US May 28, 2016 09:59

US President Barack Obama stood on the hallowed ground of Hiroshima and declared it a fitting place to summon people everywhere to embrace the vision of a world without nuclear weapons. The first American president to visit the city where the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb.Around 140,000 people died after a U.S. warplane targeted wartime Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, and 70,000 more perished in Nagasaki, where a second bomb was dropped three days later. Japan soon surrendered.``Their souls speak to us,'' Obama said of the dead. ``They ask us to look inward, to take stock of who we are and who we might become.''``We may not realize this goal in my lifetime, but persistent effort can roll back the possibility of catastrophe,'' he said."We come to ponder the terrible force unleashed in the not so distant past," Obama said after laying a wreath at a Hiroshima peace memorial. "We come to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 Japanese men, women and children, thousands of Koreans and a dozen Americans held prisoner. Their souls speak to us.""We have known the agony of war," he wrote in the guest book. "Let us now find the courage, together, to spread peace, and pursue a world without nuclear weapons.""Amongst those nations like my own that own nuclear stockpiles, we must have the courage to escape the logic of fear and pursue a world without them," he said."We remember all the innocent killed in the arc of that terrible war and wars that came before, and wars that would follow. We have a shared responsibility to look directly in the eye of history," he said."I'm afraid I did not hear anything concrete about how he plans to achieve the abolition of nuclear weapons," said Miki Tsukishita, 75. "A-bomb survivors including me are getting older. Just cheering his visit is not enough."By Premji

Bowling at Kohli, worries me- Wasim Akram May 27, 2016 15:18

Being named as one of the best fast bowlers, former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram might have terrorized several top players with his bowling. But shockingly, he now said that, he would be worried, if he had to bowl, Virat Kohli. It seems, Kohli is currently in the special zone, with his 919 score at a strike rate of over 151 in the current edition of the IPL. Not just that, he even has a record of scoring 4 centuries in a single edition of the IPL, thus making an average of 83.54.“Belief, his ability and on top of that his technique. We haven't seen him play the reverse shot or the lap shot, he always plays proper cricketing shots with the full face of the bat. That's why he has been very consistent and as a bowler if I had to bowl at him, I will be worried. It's like in ODI cricket when Sachin Tendulkar opened the innings, it was very difficult to bowl at him because Sachin as a batsman and Kohli as a batsman will hardly give you a chance to get them out,” Akram said. “Kohli has scored 36 sixes in this IPL ... they are lot of sixes. In my cricketing career, I have 50 plus sixes and those days sixes were rare. So, you can imagine he is powerful, he is strong and he can hit the ball miles outside the stadium. He has been a treat to watch,” he added. Not just Kohli, Akram even heaped praises on RCB's South African batsman AB de Villiers, lauding his ability to win matches regardless of the situation. “Mr. 360, he plays beautifully well against the fast bowlers, equally well against the spinners... doesn't matter the situation. He is a match-winner. He will win you a game single-handedly,” he said. When asked to compare Kohli and AB De Villiers, the current Kolkata Knight riders coaching staff member said, “Very difficult to compare both of them. They have different techniques, they are different players but are very consistent and match-winners. Not just in this format but in all the formats. That's why these guys are the best in the world.”By Phani Ch
