Several students and youngsters continued to protest asking the government to lift the ban on Jallikattu. Thousands were gathered at the Marina beach on Thursday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. He demanded the promulgation of an ordinance to conduct Jallikattu. A senior minister said “the initial plan was to send a delegation of AIADMK MPs to meet Modi. He will demand a presidential ordinance to ensure Jallikattu events this year.” From Vadapalani to Guindy to Perungudi to Washermanpet to Parry’s Corner people were seen in huge shouting slogans for Jallikattu. Protestors demanded that the Union Government to promote an ordinance to ensure that the game is peacefully conducted in Tamil Nadu. They also condemned the Prime Minister's inaction and Subramanian Swamy's insensitive remarks who called the protesters as “porukkis” (scoundrels).   Students from D.G. Vaishnav, St.Thomas, Pachayappas, Loyola and New Colleges and Ambedkar University also participated in the protest. Few school students were also spotted protesting at Marina beach. “Peta has filed a case in section 37, stating the cause of animal cruelty, but bulls in Jallikattu are not tortured. Peta should have stood up for meat export rather than coming up with a cooked up case. Keeping this aside, according to article 29, we have the right to protest for our culture that is happening right now, but pathetically termed anti-democratic,” a law graduate said. A few people distributed some eatables and water to the protesters in the beach. The matter is with Supreme Court, there is no ordinance or amendment that can be brought in legally: Gauri Maulekhi, animal rights activist. Mexico: 15-Year-Old Shoots his Classmate & Teacher, Kills Himself January 19, 2017 09:28

In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old student shot his teacher and two other students in the head before killing himself. The incident took place at a private school in this northern Mexico city Wednesday. Another student also suffered lesser injuries in the shooting. The whole incident was captured on a video which was later posted on social media. Nuevo Leon state Gov. Jaime Rodriguez said "the shooter died at a hospital and the other three victims with head wounds were "fighting between life and death." The boy wounded in the arm was out of danger." A video was captured by the school's surveillance camera. It showed a female teacher handing out materials and students seated at their desks. Suddenly a boy opened fire with a pistol on a boy sitting in front of him, who immediately falls on the ground. He next shoots his teacher, who was looking in another direction. The teacher also falls on the ground. The boy stands from his seat and walks around, shooting his classmates. He then tries to kill himself but he runs out of bullets. He runs to his backpack, reloads the gun. He says something to the surviving students and then he shoots himself in the head and falls to the ground. All the surviving students all seen running out of the class. State security spokesman Aldo Fasci said, "four of the injured, including the shooter himself, had bullet wounds to the head and were in extremely serious condition." He said "the student shot the 24-year-old teacher, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy in the head, and a 15-year-old classmate in the arm. He then pointed the gun at classmates before shooting himself in the head. The classes were going perfectly well, the student stands up from his desk and pulls out a gun." He noted that "photographs of the shooting had been posted to social media and the person responsible would be punished." Fasci said, "the shooter had been under treatment for depression, but that the motive was under investigation." The spokesman attributed it to "the situation that is happening everywhere. The children have access to the internet. This has happened in other countries." Fasci said "the boy brought the gun from home. It was unclear how he got the .22 calibre pistol into the school." Usually, Mexico previously had a program to check book bags at school entrances, but now in many places, this rule is not being followed. "There was a reason why book bags were checked. I think we are going to have to start doing it again," Fasci said. VIDEO: Brazil reaches Round 16 BY M. DIVYA SRI
