Diwali 2017 - Calender With Dates, Significance Of Diwali:- The biggest Hindu festival celebrated in India is Diwali or Deepavali - the festival of lights. It is on October 17, the five-day festivities start, with Dhanteras and conclude with Bhai Dooj on October 21. According to the Hindu calender, the main Diwali falls on the darkest night of the month, Amavasya (New Moon). The festival will be commemorated on October 19 (Thursday). The ultimate victory of good over evil just like the light conquers over darkness is signified by the Diwali celebration. According to Hindu mythology, in the honor of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya and coronation after an exile of 14 years, the Diwali festival is celebrated. To seek blessings from Devi Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity, devotees do Lakshmi Puja, on the occasion. Lord Ganesha is also worshiped as he is considered the God of Good Luck and obstacle remover (Vighnaharta). (Image Source: PujaShoppe) The word “Deepavali” derives its name from the words – Deepa (clay lamps) and Avali (the row). Diwali is a Sanskrit word meaning “series of lights”. The main festival night of Diwali falls on the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika in Bikram Sambat calendar (the month of Aippasi in Tamil Calendar). The presence of knowledge will bring an end to ignorance, just like a flame of light ends the darkness. Diwali is widely celebrated as the homecoming of Lord Rama with his wife, Goddess Sita to Ayodhya in Hinduism. After completing his exile of fourteen years, he returned to the kingdom, much to the joy of his followers, which saw him kill devil king Ravana and establish Dharma in the world. Diwali is also celebrated as an occasion when Lord Rama was coronated. Diwali is celebrated to honor Lord Krishna who defeated the demon Narakasura in South India. The diwali celebrations are also equally important among the non-Hindus. Diwali marks the nirvana or spiritual awakening of Lord Mahavira in Jainism and the festival marks the day when Guru Hargobind Ji, the Sixth Sikh Guru was freed from imprisonment in Sikhism. The significance remains same - victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance, no matter the the legends and stories behind the celebration of Delhi might be different. Diwali has long been a national holiday not only in India but also an official holiday for main Diwali day is declared in other countries such as Fiji, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and recently Sindh Province in Pakistan. AP CM Finds Excuses For Delay In Polavaram October 17, 2017 16:04

AP CM Finds Excuses For Delay In Polavaram:- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, apparently realizing that he might not be able to see the completion of Polavaram project by 2019, has started looking for excuses, notwithstanding his tall claims. Naidu, reviewing the progress of works on Polavaram, told the officials that he was upset with the slow pace of construction. The lack of sufficient fund flow from the Centre was cited as the main reason for the delay in the construction of Polavaram. Once the required funds are sanctioned by the central government, the project works would be completed by 2019. “Instead of going emotional about Polavaram project, we need to think practically about its completion,” he said. However, Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari said there was no delay in release of funds by the Centre. “We shall release funds within three days of the state submitting its expenditure bills on Polavaram,” he said. Naidu sought to throw the blame on present contractor Transstroy for the delay. Transstroy is owned by TDP MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao. Naidu said as his government is unable to pay money for workers and machinery, it intended to change the main contract organization Transstroy. But the central government was reluctant to change the contractor, as it would further delay the project works. It is just that Naidu wanted that his favorite contractors be entrusted with the work. But the centre did not entertain his request. SUPRAJA

TJAC Chairman, Kodandaram Branded As Maoist Sympathizer October 17, 2017 15:57

TJAC Chairman, Kodandaram Branded As Maoist Sympathizer:- Chairman of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), Kodandaram is branded as a suspected Maoist sympathizer by Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s government. Kondandaram, a retired Osmania University political science professor is a former ally of KCR. He along with KCR fought shoulder to shoulder for Telangana statehood once, now they do not see eye to eye. Additionally, Kodandaram is described as a “Congress agent” by KCR. Mass movements against KCR’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi government have been led by TJAC for the last three years. The TJAC basked in the glow of Telangana’s formation in 2014. The TJAC was formed in 2009 to fight for statehood. KCR has been accused by Kodandaram of nepotism and betraying the “spirit of Telangana”. Recently, Kodandaram gave a call to people to dethrone KCR in the next elections. Even as KCR stays the face of the statehood movement, the TJAC, remains an influential pressure group. According to Telangana home minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy, the police have information that Kodandaram’s mass movements are supported by Maoists. Reddy said the police was directed by him not to allow the TJAC chief to tour the districts. Under a movement titled Amarula Spoorthy Yatra (tour to revive the spirit of those who lost their lives for achieving Telangana statehood), different parts of the state have been extensively toured by Kodandaram in the last one year. Kodandaram was detained by the police on Saturday, at Medipally on the outskirts of Hyderabad. This incident happened when he was on his way to Jangaon district to participate in yet another event under the Amarula Spoorthy Yatra banner. Almost after seven hours, Kodandaram was released. KCR is dismissive of Kodandaram and accuses him of conspiring against his government. “He was just one of the lakhs of Telangana activists I groomed. Now, he has the audacity to give a call to the people to dethrone me. He does not have the ability to win even as a sarpanch, let alone running a party to fight against me,” the CM said at a recent press meet. The allegations of being a Maoist sympathizer and working for the Congress were dismissed by Kodandaram. “First, let the government decide whether I am working for the Congress party or the Maoists. I have no personal agenda, except to fight on issues concerning the people, which the TRS government is ignoring.” He added, “The spirit of the Telangana is completely lost and the state has become a personal property of KCR and his family. He is trying to suppress every voice of dissent, giving the go-by to democratic traditions.” The agenda of TJAC was to involve people in governance and fight for their rightful share in the state’s development process, said Kodandaram.
