Multiple courses of antibiotics makes babies fat July 06, 2015 19:00

Do you know that antibiotics use have significant impact on child development? It was revealed by a study performed by the researchers from NYU School of Medicine. For the study, the mice were given three short courses of amoxicillin (a broad-spectrum antibiotic), tylosin or a mixture of both drugs. Researchers stated that “Number of courses of antibiotics matters. We get a little interruption of the maturation process after the second course of antibiotics, and then we have even more interruption after three courses." The study also suggested antibiotic-exposed micro biomes may be less adaptable to environmental changes. When the researchers moved the young mice to a high fat diet on day 41, for example, the micro biomes of the control mice all shifted within a single day to adapt to the new conditions. The study supports previous research by Prof Blaser's group suggesting antibiotic exposure during a critical window of early development disrupts the bacterial landscape of the gut and permanently reprogrammes the body's metabolism, setting up a predisposition for obesity. The study appeared online in Nature Communications.By Lizitha

Pawan speech highlights: Part 2 July 06, 2015 18:08

Reacting on the special status issue, Pawan said that, the Seemandhra MPs are not able to react on the issue strongly and that might be the result for it to extend more. Regarding this, Pawan referred to a famous Telugu quote “Vinte bhaarathame vinaali, thinte gaarele thinaali” and countered saying, “Thidithe KCR la thittali, padithe pourashsam leni seemandhra MP lugaa padaali.”AP state is in crisisPawan seriously opined that, AP state is in crisis and is needed to be monitored by the central government and expressed his happiness for Telangana being wealthy state.    Diplomacy on cash for vote scam After discussing all the issues, at the end Pawan answered a few of the questions shot by the media. Among them, when he was asked about his reaction towards cash for vote scam, Pawan said, “I am not sure whether the scam was really done or not. So as the case is in the court, it is not correct for me to speak on it.”On the other side, he even said that, there is no politician, who is completely fair these days and maintain a strict diplomacy on the cash for vote scandal. Andhrawishesh viewFinally, the media and the common people expected that, Pawan would react violently on the various issues of the state, but as never before, he tried to balance his opinions and took all the efforts, so that no government hurts. There are issues he dealt, where he appreciated the TRS government and there are also other separate issues, where he lifted up AP government too. He even managed to give light jolts to the dual state governments. In the entire Pawan’s political career, this might be the first speech where his arrogance was nowhere found. In fact, as a part of speech, Pawan said that, a leader should have a good control over his language, as it influences the people around him. That might be the reason for his utter cool speech this time.     However, the reaction of the dual state government’s officials on Pawan’s speech drags all the interestBy Phani

Australian Woman Cricketer to marry England counterpart in same sex marriage July 06, 2015 18:04

It seems the legalities of the same-sex marriage are not going to stop Australian Woman Cricketer Alex Blackwell from tying the knot with her English counterpart Lynsey Askew in a ceremony in England.Regarded as one of the most prolific cricketers in international women's cricket, Blackwell has been a vocal supporter of same-sex marriages in Australia. Her upcoming wedding is being widely applauded as a step against homophobia in sports."We're really excited about the future," Blackwell was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald. "For Lynsey and I make this commitment is special, and while no one knows what the future holds, to have that strong foundation will only allow for our relationship to blossom even further."The vice-captain of the national Australian team, Blackwell has been in a relationship with 28-year-old Askew - an English cricketer who has played eight international matches between 2006 and 2008 - for over seven years. The 31-year-old is currently in England and said that it is a matter of concern that same-sex marriage has not had legal nod in her own country."It disappoints me that it's not a reality for us in Australia, but things are moving very quickly, and hopefully by the time we get home it's recognized," she said.Blackwell has seen the world over as a champion in the cause of same-sex relationship, but says that a mass support is crucial."The message from society... that you don't quite deserve the same rights... sends a very dangerous message to young gay people coming to grips with their own sexuality at a difficult time of their lives," she said. "That's why I think its great Australia is getting behind it, and there's that ground swell of support for equality."But many denounced the move and claimed that this will disturb the harmony of sports. - Manohar
