Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: NIA arrests two key suspects April 12, 2024 20:20

Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: NIA arrests two key suspects:- The National Investigation Agency announced on Friday that they have apprehended the two individuals responsible for the recent explosion at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. Mussavir Hussain Shazeb and Abdul Matheen Taha were captured in Kanthi, located in Bengal's East Midnapore district. A joint operation between central intelligence agencies and the police from Bengal, Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala led to their arrest. Shazeb is believed to have planted the explosive device inside a backpack at the cafe, while Taha was responsible for planning the attack and evading capture. This marks the second and third arrests in this case, as Muzammil Shareef was taken into custody last month for providing assistance to Shazeb and Taha. The authorities were able to track down Shazeb and Taha in Kanthi after conducting searches at various locations across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The explosion, which occurred on March 1, resulted in injuries to 10 individuals but, fortunately, no fatalities. The explosives were placed in a less crowded area and against a large pillar, which helped absorb most of the impact. Surveillance cameras scattered throughout Bengaluru captured images and videos of the individuals accused of the crime. In one such recording, one of the suspects, wearing a face mask, was observed boarding a bus. To incentivize the public's assistance, the agency offered a reward of ₹ 10 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of each suspect. Furthermore, they interviewed individuals close to the accused, including their friends from school and college. Despite suffering significant damage from the blast, the Rameshwaram Cafe reopened after eight days with upgraded security measures, such as the installation of metal detectors. Raghavendra Rao, co-founder of the cafe, stated, "We have bolstered our security team and are also in the process of establishing a separate group of ex-servicemen who will provide training to our security guards at all of our branches." Previously, the Bengaluru Police had filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Substances Act in relation to the explosion at the cafe.

Kavitha gets one more shock in Delhi Liquor Scam April 12, 2024 20:11

Kavitha gets one more shock in Delhi Liquor Scam:- K Kavitha, a leader of BRS, has been placed in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until April 15 for her alleged involvement in a liquor policy scam. Following her arrest by the probe agency, Kavitha appeared in court where Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Courts made the decision. According to the CBI, Kavitha is considered a significant participant in the liquor policy case and is withholding information known only to her. The agency therefore requested a 5-day custody. "In previous proceedings, Kavitha was examined, but based on the evidence discovered during the investigation...the role of her statements revealed that she is one of the main conspirators in the excise policy. She did not cooperate with the investigation, providing unjustifiable reasons for her absence...During questioning, she failed to give satisfactory explanations regarding her involvement...It is necessary to confront her with evidence to uncover the broader conspiracy related to the liquor policy," explained the counsel for the CBI. Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the evening of March 15 in connection with a money laundering case related to the excise policy. At the time of her arrest by the CBI, she was already in judicial custody. Kavitha was brought in for questioning while in jail. The CBI stated in their application that Sarath Reddy had joined the alcohol business in Delhi with Kavitha's assurance of having connections in the Delhi Government and offering assistance. According to the CBI, Kavitha had asked Sarath Chandra Reddy to pay Rs. 25 crores for the 05 retail zones he was allotted, claiming that she had already paid Rs. 100 crores upfront to the Aam Aadmi Party through Vijay Nair. The CBI believed that Kavitha's examination was necessary to explore her involvement in the criminal conspiracy related to the creation and implementation of the Excise Policy. Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhary, representing the BRS leader, argued that the arrest was illegal and unconstitutional. He questioned the timing of the arrest, pointing out that the evidence presented by the CBI was from at least a year ago.

K Kavitha Arrested By CBI Inside Tihar Jail April 11, 2024 15:24

K Kavitha Arrested By CBI Inside Tihar Jail:- K Kavitha, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has been apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) within Tihar Jail on charges of money laundering. This case is linked to the Delhi liquor policy. The arrest follows a recent interrogation of Kavitha by the investigative agency while she was in judicial custody. Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, has been accused of being a significant member of the "South Group." This group is alleged to have paid the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi a substantial sum of ₹ 100 crore in exchange for a major stake in liquor licenses in the nation's capital. She was remanded to 14-day judicial custody last Tuesday. Earlier, on March 15, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested her from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Recently, CBI officials were granted permission by a special court to question Kavitha within the prison. The interrogation focused on WhatsApp conversations found on the phone of co-accused Buchi Babu, as well as documents related to a land transaction. It is alleged that ₹ 100 crore was paid to the AAP as kickbacks in order to influence the excise policy in favor of a liquor lobby in Delhi. In a letter addressed to the court, Ms. Kavitha expressed her concerns regarding the investigation conducted by central agencies. She referred to it as a "media trial" and emphasized how it has negatively affected her reputation and invaded her privacy. The letter, which was read out in court by her lawyer, stated that her personal and political standing had been deliberately targeted. Furthermore, she lamented the fact that her mobile phone had been publicly displayed on various television channels, thereby directly violating her right to privacy. In an effort to cooperate with the agencies, she provided them with all necessary bank account details. Additionally, she assured the court that she would hand over any mobile phones that the ED claimed she had destroyed. (Video Source: ETV Telangana)
