Everyone loves Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The  movie was a blockbuster film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Breaking all kinds of records when it was released, including being the longest running film ever, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge still holds a special place in everyone’s hearts. And when you ask people their fave scene from the film, many might say that last scene where Kajol runs to catch Shah Rukh Khan’s hand while he is on a moving train as their fave (never mind the theories that he should have pulled the chain and made the train stop). 'Gau Rakshaks Should be Banned': Asaduddin Owaisi September 29, 2016 09:06

The Hyderabad parliamentarian held a meeting at the party headquarters in Darussalaam. During the meet, they responded to questions posed by media persons on the Centre's decision to introduce progress panchayats (PP), an outreach program targeted at the minorities. Asaduddin Owaisi, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president on Wednesday said that "a complete ban on gau rakshaks would show that the Modi government is "genuinely" concerned about the empowerment of the minorities." "Let the Modi government ban 'gau rakshaks' to prove that it is genuinely concerned about the minorities," the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader said. The Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad told the media that "constructive steps will help achieve the community's empowerment and not mere holding of panchayats. The first panchayat is proposed to be held in Haryana." He said "the Centre is launching such panchayats from a state where two Muslim females, including a minor, were raped and two Muslim youths murdered on beef consumption accusation. The Muslims in Haryana are being harassed in the name of checking their biryani. Let them raid five-star hotels in Gurgaon and check the biryani there." Owaisi said "Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also prove his sincerity by stopping statements emanating from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders that hurt the sentiments of the minorities. Empowerment of the Muslims was the constitutional duty of the Modi government and it was not doing a favor to the community." The AIMIM leader also demanded five per cent quota to the Muslims in Maharashtra as per the Mumbai High Court order. "You are giving job quota to the Jats in Haryana, to the economically backward classes in Rajasthan and to the Patels in Gujarat. Who is stopping you from extending reservation to the Muslims in Maharashtra," he asked. Owaisi said, "the government should hold panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir, as there was an urgent need to reach out to the Kashmiris and talk to them since around 90 persons have been killed and peace remains shattered for nearly three months." "You talk of empowerment but why are you against the minority character of the Aligarh Muslim University and the Jamia Millia," the MP asked. Owaisi said that "the Modi government is doing minorities no favor by empowering them as it is a 'Constitutional duty'." The High Court told "the Maharashtra government to give five per cent reservations to Muslims. You (BJP government) don't do that." ALSO READ: Owaisi to take Legal Action Against Yateen Oza BY M. 8 Hyderabad Based Consultants Involved in Visa Fraud September 29, 2016 08:50

Recently, the visa fraud which came to light in Hyderabad has bought another shocking update. Immigration New Zealand’s Mumbai area office has confirmed that eight Hyderabad-based consultants, who had been sending the most students to New Zealand, have been involved in the fraud. The Immigration office also mentioned the names of those consultants i. e  Kiwi Overseas Services, Sunrise Overseas Educational Consultants, IVY Overseas of SR Nagar, FIFO Overseas, Leaf Educational Services, AR Overseas Consultants of Dilsukhnagar, Storm Atlas, and V & U Intellect Consultants. Immigration New Zealand authorities meanwhile said that "the visa rejection rate and the number of students being deported were the highest among Indians. In turn, students from Hyderabad topped the list among Indians. Around 150 students, mostly from Hyderabad, were served deportation letters as an organized financial document fraud was detected regarding the students send by Hyderabad agents." An investigation report of NZ Immigration regarding Hyderabad consultants is available with Deccan Chronicle . The report states: “...the fraud appears to have exploited the fact that education loan documents are normally verified at sanction stage but not at disbursal stage, therefore creating an unguarded stage in the visa process which these agents have noticed and exploited. For instance, Kiwi Overseas Services is one of the biggest New Zealand agents for students in Hyderabad. It had 48 out of 104 applicants approved since January 2015. Of them, at least 31, around 65 per cent, were provided with fake loan disbursal letters. The Mumbai area office verification support team undertook direct verifications with various banks in Hyderabad." Migrant Workers Association of Aotearoa / NZ has been helping nine students from Hyderabad — Charan Reddy, Sunil Chinta, Shahed, Shujath Ullah Baig, Teegala Sairoopreddy, Manoj Kiran, Hafiz Syed, Ramakrishna Reddy and Pradeep Reddy. In an email response, MWA’s Anu Kaloti stated, “This investigation was carried out by some 57 agents in Hyderabad alone. It is clear from the report that the fraud was committed by the agents and corrupt bank officials in India, but the report does not reveal the names of banks. We and the students have requested help from Mr. Sanjeev Kohli, Indian envoy in NZ. The students have also Tweeted to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj asking for help but there was no response. The students are extremely stressed.” She added, “The report also clearly states that Immigration NZ had not been checking the loan disbursement documents thoroughly.” When DC did a check on agents, it was found that most of the consultants had downed shutters. Some of them had brought down their websites too. ALSO READ: 3,176 Visa Applications Rejected by Immigration Authorities BY M. DIVYA SRI

GHMC Ignores High Court Orders September 29, 2016 08:38

Though High court ordered to demolish 80 illegal constructions since November 2015, GHMC failed to carry out the order. Environmentalists said that "the GHMC not only avoids pulling down structures despite court orders, but it also does not make serious efforts to vacate stay orders in a large number of cases against illegal encroachments. In all, there are over 3,300 cases pertaining to the Town Planning department of GHMC pending in various courts." Environmentalist Dr. Lubna Sarwath said a “contempt of court case was filed against GHMC and Ranga Reddy district collectorate authorities after they failed to demolish illegal structures on the full tank level area of Kapra lake despite being directed to demolish." “We are pursuing the case further. The officials claimed that they had taken action and demolished the illegal structures,” said Mr. Sateesh of Save Our Urban Lakes. “A major portion of the unauthorized structures have not been demolished. We are going to court again,” said Mr. Sateesh of Save Our Urban Lakes (Soul). However, contempt of court cases has not been filed against GHMC despite the civic body not demolishing illegal structures. Town Planning officers take refuge under the same court orders, which also directs GHMC to conduct a “last hearing” in the presence of the petitioner and defender before pulling down the structure. This is done to give a final opportunity to the affected party as such a hearing would also make him or her aware of the time and date on which GHMC would pull down the structure. Municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao has also asked GHMC to focus on big encroachers, big realtors such as Ramky, who encroached on the buffer zone of the Yellamma Cheruvu near the KPHB Colony and got a court stay, N-Convention (which encroached on three acres of Thummidikunta Lake, Madhapur and Talkie Town at Miyapur Lake do not feature in the GHMC list. Ms. Lubna Sarawath, from Save Our Lakes, said, “In 2014, soon after the TRS took charge, officials cracked down on N-Convention. The HMDA had earlier appointed a consultant that showed the total spread of the lake as 25 acres. However, the irrigation department had another map showing the lake spread as 29 acres. HMDA on its website too showed Thummidikunta Lake as 25 acre- this was to hide the encroachment by N–Convention, which occupied the buffer zone and FTL. The government later said the case would need legal study and since then nothing has happened.” He added "meanwhile, Ramky Estates ( the group of villas) was constructed within the FTL of Yellamma Cherruvu near KPHB. The party had gone to the court and got a stay and there has been no effort by the GHMC to further pursue the case.” “Massive constructions are on towards the right side of the bund. Very recently we had complained to the MRO of Banglaguda but instead of mentioning big encroachers, they have listed small rooms for demolition. The entire MM Colony is raised on the lake,” added Ms. Sarawath. Regarding Kapra Lake, activist Mr Satish Kumar said, “A contempt case has been filed in the High Court against G. Bal Reddy, district collector of Ranga Reddy, for a restoration of Kapra Lake. Notices have been issued for non-compliance of an eviction order of illegal construction and for no further constructions on Kapra Cheruvu. According to the High Court order, the Ranga Reddy collector had admitted in his counter affidavit that a 22-meter  compound wall had been illegally built by a private builder at the cheruvu and the collector had said that the encroachments would be removed within eight weeks. However, till date nothing has been done.” ALSO READ: Operation Demolition! BY M. DIVYA SRI

Indian spices & cuisines could help you live longer September 29, 2016 02:24

The dangers of increased Western appetites for processed foods have been well researched, particularly their links to cancer, obesity and diseases such as diabetes. Instead, experts are keen to lure people towards the unprocessed, natural foods eaten daily by these centenarian-filled communities.   Each cuisine consists of their own flavorsome version of core ingredients: wholegrain, vegetables, fiber and protein.  Qi's research investigates the benefit of spicing things up in the kitchen to reduce mortality. "Some nutrients, like capsaicin, may be beneficial, but evidence is still lacking," she explains. Ammerman says claims that spices like turmeric and ginger have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which can reduce risk of mortality are difficult to assess.   Other factors could be at play, such as the food those spices are used to flavor. "If you're eating a lot of turmeric, you're probably eating a lot of vegetables," says Ammerman.   Take a look at our list below for some common Indian spices and the medicinal benefits that each one provides.1. TURMERICThis bright orange spice is a member of the ginger family, For thousands of years, Ayurvedic medicine has used turmeric for a variety of health reasons. The National Institute of Health has found that turmeric aids in helping to treat arthritis, heartburn, stomach pain, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomach bloating, and loss of appetite. Turmeric is also used as a topical treatment for issues like skin inflammation, infected wounds, and ringworm.2. BLACK PEPPERBlack pepper is not a spice that many people associate with Indian cooking. However, these little peppercorns have their most ancient roots in India. Black pepper aids in digestion, congestion, an upset stomach and can also help to stop the bleeding on a cut when applied topically.   3. CARDAMOMNative to the forests in India, these green pods are commonly used not only in Indian cooking, but also in Chai—also known as Indian tea. It can be used to counteract a number of digestive problems including, bloating, gas, heartburn and loss of appetite—it can even treat bad breath and is commonly used as an after-meal breath freshener. In preliminary studies it has also been shown to have cancer fighting effects against non-melanoma skin cancer. However, more research is needed before cardamom can be recommended for cancer prevention. 4. CLOVEThe little bud resembles a tiny flower used not only in Indian cuisines, but in African and Middle Eastern as well. Clove is found in toothpastes, soaps, and perfumes. Indian healers have used the oils, flower buds, and stems from the plant in an array of medicine. Clove is possibly effective in helping with premature ejaculation when applied directly to the penis. Clove oil can also help with pain when applied topically, and can help with stomach issues like gas, diarrhea, nausea and upset stomach.5. CINNAMONThis bark-like spice originates from Sri Lanka, and was originally harvested by Arabian traders from a tall tree and ground to create the powder form of cinnamon. According to the Mayo Clinic, research suggest that cinnamon might help to regulate treatment for people with type 2 diabetes. The theory is that cinnamon increases insulin action.
