Ever destructing Lalit Gate July 01, 2015 16:58

Lalit gate is refusing to settle down and it is getting murkier than everybody thought. Now that, BJP parliamentarian Varun Gandhi is dragged into this raging controversy involving former IPL boss Lalit Modi, after the ex-cricket administrator alleged that the Sultanpur MP offered him a deal to “settle everything” in the Congress with Sonia Gandhi.“He wanted me to meet her sister from Italy. I heard him next I heard from our common friend who introduced us that Auntie wants 60 million dollars,” he tweeted. “The auntie he refers to is #soniagandhi  (sic). The sister is #soniagandhi sister - just for clarity.”The BJP also rejected the allegations"Varun Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are in different parties and the world knows about the ties between the two families,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said."Please mr @varungandhi80 - let the world know what you told about what auntie wants - witness is our good friend world renowned astrologer,” tweeted Lalit.Another front of controversy has opened when the fugitive former IPL chief Lalit Modi had offered a job to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s advocate husband Swaraj Kaushal. Kaushal, who has for years been one of Lalit Modi's lawyers, later refused the offer.Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “There is now clear material to show that Lalit Modi offered a job to close relative of Foreign Minister.” Singhvi said, “You are having on one hand deafening silence and on the other casual clean chits. This can't go. People of India want an answer.”"Is there any minister in Narendra Modi's cabinet whose immediate relative was offered a job in a company owned by Lalit Modi? Can a cabinet minister's relative be involved in a commercial transaction or have pecuniary interests with persons or businesses that are subject matter of that particular ministry? Should such disclosures not be made in public interest?" asked AAP leader Raghav Chadha.Indofil Chairman and Managing Director Krishan Kumar Modi said, "Lalit Modi had proposed that Swaraj Kaushal be given the post of an alternate director, a proposal that he later withdrew. Thus the board of directors never considered his name. We have never had any discussions with Kaushal over the same."By Premji

Not Rs. 91000, Kejriwal’s electricity bill is Rs. 15000 July 01, 2015 16:18

The Delhi government specified that, "electricity bill of Rs. 91000, is inclusive of electricity charges at the camp office and various other facilities installed for visitors at the complex," countering the BJP, who raised this allegation. It was known that BJP officials alleged that, the AAP officials are misusing the public money by unnecessarily wasting the electricity and that is the result of Rs.91000 as the bill.   But Kejriwal government clearly said that, “Rs.91000 is inclusive of other electricity charges at the camp office and his personal monthly electricity bill is around Rs. 15,000.”Also read: Blow to Kejriwal - Anti-Corruption wing under L GGiving more clarity on the bill, the government said that, Delhi Chief Minister’s house was divided two units using separate power connections. One of these two units is Kejriwal’s private residence.    After moving into the house in February, Kejriwal spent Rs. 17,000 in March, Rs. 7,370 in April and Rs. 22,690 in May, the reports stated.   Kejriwal's part of the house is allocated to perform official works and other meetings with the public. So this part of the house gave a Rs.15175 bill in March, Rs. 48, 630 in April and the May bill is yet to be paid, says a  statement.    "300 people come to meet him every day. Is he expected to make people sit in that hall in such scorching heat and humidity?" questioned AAP leader Jarnail Singh. Instead of trying to corner AAP government in every single issue, it would be better if the BJP officials compete with AAP’s popularity in Delhi, through working for the welfare of the city residents.   By Phani

Discrepancies found in social welfare schemes of Delhi government - CAG July 01, 2015 16:05

Auditor CAG has pointed out many discrepancies in the implementation of the social welfare schemes, including mid-day meal (MDM) and pulled up the Delhi government, for its failure to obtain fund utilisation certificates from the institutions."There were delays in obtaining utilisation certificates (UCs) from various grantee institutions for the grants released to them. Out of a total of 5,235 grants amounting to Rs 26,434.30 crore, which was given till March 2013, 4,784 UCs amounting to Rs 19,064.02 crore were awaited from various departments at the end of March 2014. Out of 4,784 outstanding UCs, 2,267 UCs (47.39%) amounting to Rs 5,651.17 crore were due for more than 10 years," the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said in its report."Also, out of 2,102 samples of cooked meals, a total of 1,876 samples (89%) failed tests for nutritive value during 2010-14. The enrolment, attendance and retention of children in schools could not be enhanced," said the auditor’s report. The CAG also points out with much concern that large balances amounting to Rs 1,151.65 crore as on March 31, 2014 were outstanding under "suspense heads". In 2009-10, the balance under this head was Rs 101.02 crore, it rose to Rs 158.81 crore in 2010-11 and went up further in 2011-12 to Rs 215.62 crore. In 2012-13 it was Rs 273.78 crore and it suddenly shot to Rs 1,151.65 crore in 2013-14."These are recorded initially under the 'suspense heads' which are required to be reviewed at short intervals so as to ensure that no item remains unadjusted longer than is reasonably necessary," the CAG noted.CAG had referred to the working of Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation and said that it did not formulate a perspective plan for tourism promotion in the city despite 39 years of its formation (1975). Tourist inflow in Delhi as a whole has registered an increase of 108%, whereas it increased only by 30% in the tourist spots owned by the Company during 2009-14, it said. "Vacant craft and food stalls and non-holding of cultural events on a regular basis at the Dilli Haats, led to declining footfall and consequent inadequate exposition of Indian Art and Crafts, Culture and Cuisine."Regarding to the revenue department, CAG found that "test check of records of 80 units of the Department of Trade and Taxes, State Excise, Transport and Revenue conducted during the year 2013-14 showed under-assessment / short levy / loss of revenue, aggregating to the tune of Rs 905.66 crore in 2001 cases."By Premji

Palla plays internal politics for his college affiliations? July 01, 2015 13:56

Educational institutions head and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari are in tough conflict for the past three days, about the seats allotment and the affiliation of the engineering colleges in Telangana.  The officials had already checked twice, whether the proper infrastructure facilities and the faculty are available in the colleges of JNTUH. Basing on this, a list was prepared. It was heard that, there is a scarcity of faculty in the Palla Rajeshwar Reddy colleges and so the affiliation is not permitted for it. On the other hand, Reddy said that, there is only a scarcity of two faculties, how can that be a reason to cancel the affiliation. Regarding this, a serious discussion was held among the two biggies in the deputy CM’s camp office. The issue was even taken to Chief Minister KCR. He then sorted out a solution and convinced them. The affiliation of a single branch from Btech and another single branch from Mtech are rejected, for the colleges which are identified to be facing the scarcity, be it in providing infrastructure facilities or proper faculty. No conflict with Kadiyam- PallaPalla Rajeshwar Reddy said that, there is no such conflict held between him and Kadiyam. "The JNTUH officials had followed all the norms and allotted the affiliation according to it. In fact, they even reduced few seats in my college. For that, I need not raise a conflict with any official. These are just the rumors spread by our competitors," he clarified. It would be better, if there are no such politics played regarding the education in the state as it might show a great influence among the students.By Phani

Tamilnadu and AP do not have a joint capital- Pratthipati July 01, 2015 12:19

“There is no authority for Tamilnadu police to enter into the AP state,” Minister Pratthi Paati Pulla Rao clarifies.Speaking to the media, Pulla Rao said that, “a retired judge questioned me that, whether the Tamilnadu police are allowed to Andhra Pradesh, implying that the AP police have no right to enter into Telangana state.”Also read: BJP to monitor the section 8 issue, between the Telugu statesAnswering to that question, Rao said that, Hyderabad is a joint capital of both the Telugu states. So we have the every right to allocate AP police in Hyderabad too. Coming to Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh is not sharing any capital with the former state, so it would be meaningless, if Tamilnadu police enters the AP state. This is a simple logic and it is a pity that a person, who once worked as a judge is unaware of it.  He further stressed on Section 8 and said that it has to be implemented immediately, as it is already delayed from the past one year. Also read: Section 8, an obvious need, AP DGP saysOther officials like Kollu Ravindra, Gaali Muddu Krishnama Naidu, and Mrunalini stressed upon Section 8 and demanded the immediate implementation. They even declared to raise a movement, if the section is not implemented. If section 8 is not possible, Hyderabad should be made a union territory, few others said. They seriously warned the Telangana government not to make section 8 an issue.   Also read: Hyderabad might become a union territory? The Telangana government declared to raise a movement against section 8 implementation and AP officials too declared the movement if section 8 is not implemented. So the section 8 has now become the key aspect of the Telugu states.By Phani

Many told that the minister could have limited it with words. This is not the first time Singh has courted controversy. Just two weeks after taking his oath in February this year, he had landed in a controversy after a woman doctor filed a complaint against him, accusing him of "mental harassment amounting to outraging modesty".The complainant alleged that she was standing with other hospital staff when the minister walked towards her and asked her why wasn't she wearing her lab coat. To this, she replied that as it was a social function she thought it was not required. The minister, according to the complainant, shouted at her and said, "It is an official function."The doctor said she informed the minister that at times psychiatrists don't wear their coats even in hospital wards, so as to make their patients feel comfortable around them. But, she alleged, the minister shouted at her and said, "Who has invited you here?""He snapped his fingers at me and said: 'Tumhara Kaam Ho gaya, chalo niklo bahar'," the doctor said in her complaint. - Manohar
