Tamil Nadu governor invites AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa to form government May 22, 2015 13:31

On a day of quick developments, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosiah Friday invited AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa to form a government, marking yet another milestone in Dravidian politics. At around 8.15am, chief minister O Panneerselvam handed over his resignation to the Governor, making way for his party chief to take over the administrative reins.A Raj Bhavan press release issued at 8.30am by principal secretary to the Governor said he accepted the resignation of Panneerselvam and his council of ministers with effect from forenoon of May 22. "The Governor has requested the CM and his present council to function until alternative arrangements are made," the release said.Another press release said the Governor had invited Jayalalithaa to form the ministry at the earliest and requested her to send the list of persons to be appointed as ministers with their portfolios. The AIADMK chief is scheduled to meet Rosiah at around 2pm today to stake claim to form the government. She is likely to be sworn in as chief minister at a gala ceremony in the city on Saturday morning.Popularly referred to as 'caretaker CM', this was Panneerselvam's second stint as Tamil Nadu chief minister, both for brief periods. Around 8.15am, Panneerselvam, accompanied by the AIADMK's core committee members, went to Raj Bhavan and handed over his resignation as per schedule, ending his nearly eight-month stint. This was the second time that Jayalalithaa was forced to step down as chief minister. In September last year, she was disqualified as MLA and had to step down as CM after a Bengaluru special court convicted her and three others in a disproportionate assets case and sentenced them to five years' imprisonment. Panneerselvam was sworn in as chief minister shortly after that. On May 11, the the Karnataka high court acquitted her and three others in the wealth case, triggering a series of dramatic developments and making way for her return. In 2001 too, Jayalalithaa was forced to step down briefly after she became chief minister following her conviction in the Tansi case. Then too, Panneerselvam stepped in, serving a brief seven-month term as CM.Earlier in the day, the AIADMK unanimously elected Jayalalithaa as legislature party leader. At a brief meeting presided over by party presidium chairman E Madhusoodanan, 148 MLAs unanimously passed a resolution electing her as their leader. Madhusoodanan read out the resolution that merely said she had been elected legislature party leader.Barring two MLAs, including former minister S S (Agri) Krishnamoorthy, who was lodged in a Triunelveli prison, and Sendur Pandian, who was unwell in a hospital, the remaining 148 party MLAs assembled at the AIADMK headquarters in the city at 7am sharp. Panneerselvam proposed Jayalalithaas name and power minister Natham Vishwanathan seconded it, drawing claps and cheers. Panneeerselvam then announced he would be resigning from his post as CM.The gathering dispersed soon after the resolution was read out and a core committee led by Panneerselvam went to Jayalalithaa's Poes garden residence to hand over the resolution copy to her. The occasion was marked by much cheer with seven of the rebel MLAs from Vijayakanth's DMDK too present to show solidarity with the AIADMK chief. - Manohar

Skipping meals increases belly fat, study revealed May 22, 2015 13:10

Zero size is one of the most desired figure for every women. But dieting is not the best and healthy way to achieve it. The researchers have found that skipping meals can ultimately result in abdominal weight gain. “This does support the notion that small meals throughout the day can be helpful for weight loss, though that may not be practical for many people," said senior author of the study Martha Belury, professor of human nutrition at The Ohio State University in the US."But you definitely do not want to skip meals to save calories because it sets your body up for larger fluctuations in insulin and glucose and could be setting you up for more fat gain instead of fat loss," Belury explained.During the research, the mice that ate all of their food as a single meal and fasted the rest of the day developed insulin resistance in their livers. When the liver does not respond to insulin signals telling it to stop producing glucose, that extra sugar in the blood is stored as fat. These mice initially were put on a restricted diet and lost weight compared to controls that had unlimited access to food. The restricted-diet mice regained weight as calories were added back into their diets and nearly caught up to controls by the study's end. But the fat near the abdomen area which is equivalent to human belly fat weighed more in the restricted diet mice than the other mice that were free to nibble all day long. So, experts suggest skipping meals to loose weight is not a healthy way as it actually increases belly fat. By Lizitha

Many political parties have supported Geelani and urged the government to issue him a passport on "humanitarian grounds", while some others opposed any such move by the Centre. Geelan a known baiter of India and a staunch supporter of Pakistan is a shameless man to apply for an Indian passport while he tells that he is not an Indian. This eunuch, traitor is not having any dignity while taking help from the India forces during the floods in Jammu and Kashmir against whom he is conspiring with Pakistan, the haven of terrorists and the rogue state."We have seen media reports of Syed Ali Geelani's passport application. An incomplete passport application was received from him. Fees were not paid and the biometric details and photographs not submitted," Spokesperson in MEA Vikas Swarup said. "Passport is the right of every Indian citizen and is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs after following due process. In case any applicant applies for the passport, he should fulfil all the formalities before his case is processed. This shameless, eunuch, traitor does not qualify for an Indian Passport.Defense minister Manohar Parrikar said, “Geelani should declare he is an Indian to get a passport. Lifestyle diseases increases risk of infertility in women May 22, 2015 12:33

According to the study conducted by fertility expert Kshitiz Murdia of the Indira Infertility Clinic and Test Tube Baby Centre has revealed that “a rise in lifestyle diseases is increasing the risk of infertility among young women”. The study stated that links between the lifestyle diseases and infertility were gaining validation and Adenomyosis, Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOM) are the three most severe diseases that leads to infertility. In Endometriosis, the tissue lining inside uterus grows outside the uterus. PCOS is also a similar disease that leads to enlargement of the ovary. The symptoms were prevalent during menstrual cycle in the form of infrequent, prolonged or excessive bleeding accompanied with pain. The signs of these diseases also involve abdominal cramps and blood clots. In case of PCOS, excessive hair growth, acne and obesity can also be witnessed."There is strong evidence that factors like age, weight and smoking have adverse impacts on the general health and reproductive capability of a woman," said the study. "The most important thing to be done right now is not to let such disease go undiagnosed," said the study. There was an urgent need to pay heed to the problem as in many cases people do not get to know about it. Naughty ideas basing 'Tank bund' traffic restrictions! May 22, 2015 11:59

If you cook a curry, its completion time can be estimated, if you watch a movie on TV, time can be estimated, in that sense most of such works can be estimated. But, basing the traffic in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, while traveling on the roads, if you estimate a particular destination time, and by chance, if you reached your destination at that time itself, take it for granted, that you are blessed. If you reach much quicker than your estimation, you are over blessed, but if you did not reach on time, then you might be the true citizen of twin cities. In fact, there would be more fellow human beings like you, so no need to worry at all. In spite of having these many traffic difficulties, the public is anyway managing to adjust to the situations. But, now the Telangana government has announced traffic restrictions on Tank bund to clean the sewage water. So the people who travel on these roads, had to face much more difficulty as the traffic gets diverted to other routes. Few of the diversion routes, are almost doubling the journey time. But, as the reason behind this diversion is for a good cause, hope the public understand and cooperate with the government's decision and adjust for just 10 days, that is from 22 May to 31 May.  Also, lets hope that, the offices and educational institutions understand the problems of their employees and students, who come regularly through Tank bund and also finally hope from the behalf of all offices and educational institutions, that no employee or student lie that they shifted their houses to the Tank bund route recently.By Phani

Terrorists against terrorists in J&K, headache for Pakistan sponsored terrorism May 22, 2015 11:36

India is aimed at intelligence-backed "targeted kills" against terrorists in J&K while militarily is dominating in the Line of Control with Pakistan, which has forced a 30% drop in cross-border ceasefire violations as well as infiltration bids. "The situation is pretty much under control. Our proactive attitude is to identify terrorists and then effectively neutralise them. Every case is handled firmly with clear-cut intelligence for targeted killings, ensuring minimal, if any, collateral damage," defense minister Manohar Parrikar said. He clarified that "terrorists should be neutralised by terrorists" or "kante se kanta nikalna (remove a thorn with a thorn)" and he did not mean covert operations being undertaken by "our own people"."Many terrorists are drawn into terrorism because of financial allurements, they are paid money for it. If such people are there, why not use them? What is the harm is using terrorists against terrorists? Why should our soldiers be in the front?", he said. The Army has been asked to undertake surgical strikes against terrorists, rather than conducting random operations. The Army has neutralised 110 terrorists in 2014, the highest such tally in the last four years. While talking about Pakistan’s dubious attitude, the defense minister said "the situation actually depends on how we react to it", India's "very firm" response to cross-border firing and abetment to terrorism is paying dividends. As per defense ministry figures, there has been a decline of 32% in Pakistan-initiated ceasefire violations and a decrease of 28% in "successful infiltrations" since the Modi government came to office in May last year. After the takeover of the new government, Pakistan is very much concerned about the retaliation it may get if they try any misadventure. During cease fire violations the India Army gave a befitting reply and the Pakistan Army was forced to wave white flags. Pakistan Army, which has the history of losing the wars waged against India and hence they use terrorists and wage proxy war against India. India’s retaliation and the excellent capability to initiate surgical strikes against the Pakistan sponsored terrorist have resulted in the total failure of Pakistan’s treacherous activity. It's Virat Kohli Vs Mahendra Singh Dhoni in IPL 2015 May 22, 2015 10:52

People say absence makes the heart grow fonder. On the eve of the second qualifier here on Friday, it was found that not only the love for IPL was greater this year among the fans, getting the chance to watch a qualifier has injected more enthusiasm. Missing out on league matches has turned to be boon. Not only the fans, CSK management is also happy to get IPL engagements back to their captain's hometown. Asked if the familiar surrounding at captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's backyard will hold any advantage, CSK coach Stephen Felming said, "I hope so. We played a lot last year here obviously and it was key part of that season and some emotional connection because of skipper's home town. So we are hoping it will be good for us."But we know it's not all. When it comes down to competitive matches, I guess it's just the improvement from the side to make sure we do the job, it doesn't matter what surroundings you are in. If you don't play well enough you won't get the goodies. So we got to play well."Interestingly the fact that tickets are sold out may not guarantee a fullhouse. Some had booked the tickets hoping they will get to see Mumbai Indians and thus, former stars Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Jonty Rhodes, who have retired as players, here."Watching Dhoni vs Virat will be a treat for us. Dhoni didn't play in last match (India vs Sri Lanka ODI in November) here. We will get to see him tomorrow. But I wanted to see Mumbai here because of Sachin, Jonty and Ponting. They don't play now, so this was the chance to see these greats of the game here. Unfortunately we missed the chance. Many of my friends and acquaintances had booked tickets anticipating Mumbai Indians would play here," Pratap Kumar from Chutia said. However, Mumbai or no Mumbai, a cracker of a match awaits Ranchi in the sweltering heat with a promise to send the mercury higher. - Manohar

Coffee drinking helps in preventing erectile dysfunction May 22, 2015 10:37

Drinking two or three cups a coffee can help in boosting your romantic life, interesting research has found. The researchers from the University of Texas, men who drink two to three cups of coffee a day are less likely to have erectile dysfunction (ED)."We saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive. That was not true of men with diabetes."Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED so this was not surprising," explained David S Lopez, lead author and assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Centre at Houston (UTHealth). The researchers found that men who consumed between 85 and 170 milligrams of caffeine a day were 42 percent less likely to report ED. Those who drank between 171 and 303 milligrams of caffeine a day were 39 percent less likely to report ED compared to those who drank zero to seven milligrams a day. This trend was also true among overweight, obese and hypertensive men.The study appeared in the journal PLOS ONE.By Lizitha
