Bharadwaj dropped another bombshell March 30, 2015 13:29

Within a week, Congress Party's former Law Minister Hansraj Bharadwaj attacked party leaders for one more time on the ground of corruption. In an interview given to the media, Bhardwaj has blamed party leaders for being slow on charges of corruption against BJP leaders in Karnataka. The former politician claimed that he was pressurized by many Congress leaders not to take action against Reddy brothers and Yeddyurappa. Subsequently after Bhardwaj's action, BJP was forced to remove its talisman leader from the post of CM. After Bharadwaj’s action, Yeddy formed his own party, which created crisis for the saffron party. While the party failed to get majority in the elections, it somehow managed boot out BJP from the power in 2013. Bhardwaj now claims credit for Congress's win in the Southern state. Earlier, last week the former Law Minister attacked the party on various issues accusing certain members of bringing about its downfall through extended bouts of corruption, while adding that senior members have been kicked out of the party."When the Congress was in power, 10 Janpath Road had no role to play in Cabinet meets. It was a closed door meeting. Only ministers participated and there was full freedom to speak one's mind. Those days, laws were being passed without even a discussion," Bhardwaj said."Manmohan Singh is an honest man. The court has issued summons to him, and he has gone because he believes in the rule of law. But imagine how much waywardness has been present for even him to be summoned. Rajiv Gandhi was an innocent. These corrupt people had pitted him against VP Singh. His friends abandoned him, but we never left his side even after he died," he added.@dnaindia- Manohar

CHLA develops First Micropacemaker to treat fetal heart blocks March 30, 2015 12:54

With the development of first implantable Micropacemaker even the heart blocks in Foetus can also be treated. A team of researchers from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) have designed this micropacemaker. The study was published online on March 14 in the journal Heart Rhythm. The congenital heart block is usually due to the defect of heart’s electric system which results in slowing down the rate of heart and impacting its ability to pump blood. It is estimated that it occurs in 1 in 10, 000 fetuses. Although this condition has been identified in early stages, this cannot be treated with lack of modern devices. But now the implantable micropacemaker has been identified by the researchers which help in preventing miscarriages and premature births of babies with congenital complete heart block. Gerald Loeb, professor at the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC, said: “Building on our experience of using microfabrication techniques to create biomedical devices, we have developed a micropacemaker small enough to reside entirely within the foetus.”Study lead author Yaniv Bar-Cohen, pediatric cardiologist at the CHLA added, “We now have a pacemaker that can be implanted in utero, potentially without harm to the foetus or the mom,’ says Ramen Chmait, the director of the CHLA-USC Institute for Maternal-Fetal Health noted.AW: Lizitha

AAP sacked rebel leader Prashant Bhushan March 30, 2015 11:41

In an acrimonious showdown spurred by Arvind Kejriwal’s “either me or them” charge, the AAP on Saturday sacked rebel leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, along with two of their supporters, from its national executive, pushing the party towards a split.“Democracy was murdered and Kejriwal looked away,” Yadav said of the decision taken at a meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party’s 392-member national council. The rebel camp claimed the proceedings were rigged, rules flouted and ‘bouncers’ brought in to keep away those who disagreed with the Delhi chief minister.Saturday’s action - which followed the duo’s March 4 ouster from the political affairs committee, AAP’s top decision-making body, and a total breakdown in reconciliation efforts - could be a prelude to their sacking from the party itself. Expulsion is not possible without a formal case of indiscipline, and AAP said it would be taking disciplinary action against those making anti-party statements in the media.Dramatic scenes played out at the venue - a resort owned by a party MLA on the Kapashera border - as volunteers from both camps kept up a steady war of words, shouting “party humaari aap ki, nahi kisi ke baap ki” and “gaddaron ko bahar nikalon”. Inside, Kejriwal - having kept a studied silence all this while - made his case in an hour-long address. “If the party decides, I will quit and relinquish all posts. Now it is up to you to decide if you want me or them,” a senior AAP leader quoted the CM as saying. “Two groups of AAP were working in the Delhi election… When the whole party was working towards victory, the other was scheming for its defeat,” he reportedly said.@hindustantimes- Manohar

The ISRO will launch the IRNSS 1-D satellite through the PSLV C-27 (XL) vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on Saturday, helping India begin the operation of an indigenous regional navigation satellite system.“With the functioning of IRNSS 1-D in orbit, proof-of-concept of an independent regional navigation satellite system over India can be established,” the ISRO said. The 1,425-kg IRNSS 1-D is the fourth in a series of seven satellites that, along with ground stations, form the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).The IRNSS 1-D launch, scheduled for 5.19 p.m., will help the country begin operations partially, and the system will become efficient once all seven satellites are positioned in space, an ISRO official said. A common service and restricted service will be provided after the seventh satellite is launched. Though the navigation system is indigenous, it cannot be compared with the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS), since the IRNSS will cover areas only in South Asia.“The countdown is proceeding smoothly, and the vehicle is ready at the second launch pad,” the official said.   - Manohar
