Amending consumer protection Act to regulate E-commerce May 30, 2015 16:29

Proposed amendments to the consumer protection Act suggests for the creation of a separate consumer protection forum, which can file class action suits against companies on its own accord, firms and sellers. Two Cabinet ministers came down on errant e-commerce companies, as they strongly pushed for revamping of the Consumer Protection Act to protect the rights of consumers against errant players. Finance minister Arun Jaitley emphasised the need for a provision where consumers can file class action suits against fraudulent sellers, particularly in the area of e-commerce, which is dynamically changing the marketplace. "Globally, the best practice is you allow a class action in these cases. You also have to regulate the extent of reviews and appeals and the grounds on which multiple appeals can be filed," he said.Consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that consumers were often taken for a ride at three levels. "First, they are allured by misleading advertisements. Subsequently, when they buy an item online, either they don't get it in time or the product they get is sub-standard. There is no relief after you buy an item. The transactions are happening online and the buyer and seller never meet," the minister said. Paswan stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants these institutions to be strengthened since these are the windows for justice to the poorest of the poor."The volume of trade in e-commerce is only going to increase. That's how trade is going to change. So, under these circumstances, we need a very powerful and efficient (consumer) forum. The manner in which representations are made and the underlying principle of buyer being aware of the nature of goods and services itself will now have to be rewritten," Jaitley said. He said that to improve the working of these forums, funds won't be a problem. "It's the desire to send the funds in the right direction, that's important and both the Centre and the states will have to put their heads in order."By Premji

This is not accepted by God and sooner or later, these cowards, eunuchs, perverts, scoundrels will have to answer to God for their cruelty and sadistic attitude.By Premji

Sonia Gandhi out of Telangana history textbook May 30, 2015 14:08

Telangana history is now being entered into the 10th class textbooks. But throughout the syllabus, there is no such point that dealt about Sonia Gandhi which has become a controversy now. In the 10th class history book, a new chapter relating to the movement of Telangana was added. It dealt with KCR’s fast in 2009 and a few other programmes which he had carried down in the movement of Telangana, but there is no such mention about Sonia Gandhi or Congress party, who actually announced Telangana.Shabbir Ali opposes itSenior Congress leader Mohd Shabbir Ali said, “KCR promised to include Sonia’s name, whenever the history of Telangana is written. But, he cheated by omitting such a great leader and a pillar of Telangana.”  Reaction of KTRReacting to the issue, IT minister KTR said, “the history gets written by the victor. When I say victory, I don't mean only victory in electoral politics. I mean people evaluate, people assess whose contribution is what and then they decide. That is exactly what they have done. Who are we to deny people their verdict." He further adds, “there would be a lot of controversy if the role of Congress has to be written. If Congress role has to be included, then the syllabus would deal with how Congress betrayed people in 1956 and how it was carried on by the successive leaders of Congress later and eventually political exigency of Congress party in 2014, the compulsion that was conferred on them by the people of Telangana.”“The story would be so long if Congress role has to be included. So if the party is prepared for that, we have no problem to consider inclusion of that part in the syllabus”, KTR saidIntellectuals opinionThe syllabus was actually revised by the academic committee of Telangana's State Council for Education, Research and Training. Few of the intellectuals opined that, it is unfortunate to experience a ruling government’s authority on the syllabus     By Phani
