PM Modi Offers Prayers At Kedarnath Shrine:- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi had visited the Kedarnath shrine and offered his prayers on Friday. He said his visit to the Himalayan temple had strengthened his firmness to serve the nation. Uttarakhand Governor K.K. Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, accompanied the Prime Minister. Owing to winter, the Himalayan shrine will be closed from Saturday for six months. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. After offering ‘rudrabhiskek’ at the high altitude shrine the Prime Minister said serving people was a true service of the lord. “Seek blessings of Bhole Baba and resolve to devote myself to fulfilling dream of a developed India by 2022,” Modi told a gathering of officials, priests and locals at the mountain shrine. (Image Source: Facebook.com/PMOIndia) The foundation stone of five major reconstruction projects at Kedarpuri was also laid by Modi, who had visited the shrine in May this year. Improved facilities for devotees, construction of retaining walls and ghats at the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, an approach road to the shrine and reconstructing Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s tomb were included in the development process. The Shankaracharya’s tomb was devastated in the 2013 deluge. Modi also spoke of making Kedarnath a tourist destination. He also invited the people to visit and explore the Himalayas. He even said that preserving the traditional soul of Kedarnath, the quality infrastructure will be built, without flouting the laws of environment. (Video Source: Zee News) The projects were described as ambitious and expensive by him. But, also said that to ensure that they are completed in a time-bound manner, there would be no dearth of funds. Modi said  he had offered to take the responsibility of reconstructing areas surrounding the temple, as Chief Minister of Gujarat. The tragedy had stuck in 2013, killing thousands of people.   The then Uttarakhand chief minister had also agreed in principle. “But the then government at the Centre apparently had reservations about it and I had to return, However, perhaps Baba (Lord Shiva) had decided that the reconstruction around Kedarnath will be done by Baba’s son only,” he said. After remaining closed for six months for the wintersModi had visited in May when the portals of the Himalayan shrine were reopened for devotees. The people of Uttarakhand were saluted by Modi, for their discipline. “Discipline is in the blood of people here in Uttarakhand, at least one person from each family here is a soldier,” he said. Indian-Origin Guard Jailed In UK For Robbery October 20, 2017 13:04

Indian-Origin Guard Jailed In UK For Robbery:- A UK Court has sentenced an Indian-origin security guard and his accomplice for six years imprisonment for their role in a 7-million-pound staged robbery. The robbery was done by the duo from their own vehicles transporting cash. The accused identified as Ranjeev Singh and fellow security guard Mohammad Siddique were jailed for conspiracy. The robbery was carried at Kingston Crown Court in south-west London on Wednesday. Both of them have been jailed for six-and-a-half years each. The duo claimed that after they stole 26 bags of cash on March 14 this year, they had been robbed to cover their tracks. The duo are employees of European cash handling company Loomis. The “audacious” robbery involving cash took place near a cargo depot at Heathrow Airport. The incident was described in court as being similar to a Hollywood script that could be titled “iThe Heathrow Heist”. The cash belonged to Credit Suisse bank. “You Siddique and Singh played your parts to perfection. You had been involved for a considerable period in the planning,” said Judge Stephen John during sentencing. Rafaqat Hussain, a third man was given 10 years and three months of imprisonment, for being the mastermind of the raid. The raid was termed as a “classic inside job”. “You were an organiser, trying to keep your involvement at a distance. No doubt there were others in the plot as yet unidentified, but you were the principle, expecting a large slice of the proceeds and above Siddique and Singh in the hierarchy,” the judge told Hussain. The court was told that Singh and Siddique reported their van missing, after driving from the depot. Later, Siddique found bound by cables on a service road with the van abandoned and the cash missing. The service road falls near the M40 highway in Buckinghamshire. The phone records showed Siddique had been in contact with Hussain and Singh, although the two security guards pretended to be victims of a raid. The secret recordings made by a device planted by police in Hussain’s car caught him. In the recording, he admitted that he had all the cash and boasting that he could buy any car he wanted with it. Earlier, one count of conspiracy to steal, was denied by both Singh and Siddique, but at the end of a trial, the jury found them guilty. Hussain had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal, money launder and commit burglary. The court was told he had arranged to buy a house in Buckinghamshire with the stolen cash. The mastermind’s barrister, Bairaj Bhatia, said he had “failed his family” by carrying out a crime, while the mastermind wept in the dock. SUPRAJA

Indian-Origin MP Seeks UK PM’s Apology For Jallianwala Bagh Massacre October 20, 2017 12:58

Indian-Origin MP Seeks UK PM’s Apology For Jallianwala Bagh Massacre:- Virender Sharma, one of Britain’s senior-most Indian-origin MP has called for Prime Minister Theresa May to apologize for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. Earlier this week, he has tabled a Early Day Motion (EDM) under the name “Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of 1919”. So far, he has attracted five additional signatures from British MPs. “This was an important moment in the history of Britain in India. Many suggest it was the beginning of the end, a moment that finally emboldened the Independence Movement. It must be commemorated, and the British government should make clear its repudiation of such a barbaric act,” said the Labor Party MP for Ealing Southall. In April 1919, the massacre took place in Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar over Baisakhi. The gruesome incident occurred when machine guns were fired by troops of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Dyer at a crowd of people. A pro-independence demonstration was held by the group. Thousands of lives were claimed and thousand others were injured in the incident. To recognize the importance of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre the EDM calls on the House of Commons, as it is a turning point in the history of the British Empire in India. It is appropriate to commemorate it, as the centenary of the event is approaching, noted the EDM. The massacre was referred to as a “deeply shameful act” by former British Prime Minister David Cameron, recognized the EDM. The government is further urged to ensure that “British children are taught about this shameful period and that modern British values welcome the right to peaceful protest; and further urges the government formally to apologize in the House and inaugurate a memorial day to commemorate this event”. As a means of drawing attention to a particular issue or cause, the EDMs are formal motions tabled in the House of Commons. SUPRAJA

YSRCP Demands Probe In AP’s Polavaram Project October 20, 2017 12:46

YSRCP Demands Probe In AP’s Polavaram Project:- A high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Polavaram Project has been demanded by the YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh. AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been receiving kickbacks, claimed the party. Party MP YV Subba Reddy, addressing to reporters in New Delhi said, “Close on the heels of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s remarks that Polavaram should be built as a corruption free project, Chandrababu Naidu has rushed to Nagpur with a proposal to change the contractor which shows the real intentions of the state.” “The real idea behind it is to take the matter to legal corridors as the project cannot be completed within the promised deadline of 2018. If the contractor is changed, the earlier company owned by TDP MP would be blacklisted and there is every chance that he moves the court holding up the project indefinitely,” Reddy said. (Video Source: NTV Telugu) The state should also spell out the exact cost for the completion of the project, demanded Mr. Reddy and whether it would meet its 2018 deadline or not. “During CM YSR’s term, the Polavaram works began and the estimated cost was pegged at Rs 16,000 crore. The government should categorically state how much the estimated cost has escalated and what is the final figure. The irregularities in the Polavaram project have been very glaring and the works are being done not by the contractor, but by sub-contractors. Naidu wants to revise the estimates and give the contract to his own people,” Reddy alleged. In a span of three years, the project would be completed and would irrigate 2.91 lakh hectares, declared YSR in 2009. Having an assessed command area of 2.91 lakh hectares, the multi-purpose irrigation project has a power generation potential of 960 MW in its present form. “We demand that the Centre order an inquiry into the irregularities in carrying out the national project, to find out the progress during the past 3.5 years, how much was spent, and the total cost of the project,” he added. The YSRCP would meet the Union Minister for Water Resources and apprise him of the alleged irregularities, said Mr. Subba Reddy. The biggest component in the escalation of cost of the Polavaram project was the increase in the cost of Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) said Minister for Water Resources Devnineni Umamheswara Rao. The allegations made by the YSRCP MP, refuted Mr. Rao. Stating that the YSRCP leaders were “experts in corruption,” Rao said, “Everything appears yellow for their jaundiced eyes.”   SUPRAJA

Actor Dileep In Further Trouble In Assault Case? October 20, 2017 12:34

Actor Dileep In Further Trouble In Assault Case?:- Ahead of preparing a supplementary charge sheet against Malayalam actor Dileep, a meeting was held by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), who is investigating the actress assault case. ADGP B. Sandhya, who has the overall charge of the investigation, chaired the meeting. It was reported in the meeting that a set of medical documents were presented by Dileep. This was done by the actor only to show that on the day of the abduction and assault of the actress, he was under treatment in a hospital. It was a conscious attempt by him to mislead the investigation, believed the probe team. Dileep is one of the prime accused in the case. Dileep, during the interrogation, told the police that he was under treatment at a private hospital for a week, starting from February 14. The relevant medical documents were even presented by him. Meanwhile, the cops connected with the investigation, have a different version to say. According to the investigators, Dileep only visited the hospital during the day and was never admitted for treatment. The relevant documents were procured from the doctor sometime later, said the police. The police supported their claim by citing that the actor was present at a few film locations during these days. The actor was under treatment from February 14 to 18, but was not admitted as an inpatient, said Dr Hyder Ali to reporters. Dr. Ali treated Dileep in the above said days. As per the doctor, Dileep used to visit the hospital in the morning to take the medicines and returned a couple of hours later. Moreover, to give him medication every evening, the paramedical staff were also regularly sent to his residence. Even as the SIT is mulling naming the actor as the first accused in the supplementary chargesheet in the case, the illness and treatment of Dileep have emerged. The SIT is considering to make the actor the first accused on the ground that he hatched the entire conspiracy and hired the goons to commit the crime. SUPRAJA

Sci-fi Inspired Designs For Andhra Assembly In Amaravati? October 20, 2017 12:12

Sci-fi Inspired Designs For Andhra Assembly In Amaravati?:- Around 13 designs for the new AP Assembly building, have been released by the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on its Facebook page. The new AP Assembly building is to be constructed in the state’s upcoming capital of Amaravati. British architectural firm Norman Foster and Partners have submitted their designs last month. Needless to say, the designs look like they have come straight out of a science fiction film. “These are the Proposed ‘AP Assembly’ Designs at Amaravati. Your Feedback is solicited - Please indicate your choice of the design in comments section," the TDP said on its Facebook page. The public have given mixed reactions for the designs, while many pointed out that it was an unnecessary expenditure from the taxpayer’s money. “Go with the option that costs less. I don't understand why we are spending so much on exterior designs. First have one building, and we can get the exterior decorations done when our state has surplus funds. If we have enough funds to build these kind of marvelous structures, please transfer those funds to improve infrastructure across the state. If possible, build government schools and hospitals like this building,” one user, Vinay Pyda, wrote. “Are you guys building a space center? The House for 300 members doesn't need this type of architecture. Instead of spending on these things, build a world class university with trained professionals. Don't waste our money on these things,” another user criticized. But a few were also there who came to the defence of the Chief Minister. “Capital is not like any other building. It should replicate the state’s range for another 100 years. So, it’s not like constructing roads and other buildings. After losing a capital like Hyderabad, this is the least that can be done. What Chandrababu Naidu is doing is absolutely right,” one user wrote. “This kind of INFRASTRUCTURE defines our assembly level and how much better we can built. This is a concept of Dream Big n Build Big,” a user said. Several users also pointed out that rather than Indian architecture, the designs seemed heavily influenced by western architecture. Naidu himself had said that, “If I want Persian, European and Asian architecture I will rather go visit them. But at my home and workplace, I want a representation of our history, folklore and mythology.” “Please consider Indian culture for better designs,” Srinivas Reddy Buddareddygari wrote. “These are all very good designs to see, but these designs don’t reflect our Telugu culture or our traditional Indian culture...I request our selection committee to please keep Telugu/Dravidian/Indian culture in mind, and design the Assembly,” another user stated. Naidu also faced criticism, last month, for consulting SS Rajamouli, ace director of the two-part Baahubali series, which is based in the fictitious kingdom of “Mahishmathi”, for architectural designs of the buildings proposed to come up in Amaravati. While a few raised questions that if it was correct to draw inspiration for a twenty-first century, modern capital city from mythical imaginations of the past, while others stated it as an unscientific and irrational approach to city planning and architecture. SUPRAJA Here is a sneak peak into the designs:
