KCR in footsteps of Jayalalitha! February 13, 2016 10:52

It seems, Telangana Chief Minister KCR, is following the footsteps of Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha, who got succeeded in popularizing the brand called ‘Amma’ in Tamilnadu state. It is well known that, Tamilnadu state residents address their beloved CM, as ‘Amma’. To strengthen that feeling among the people, Jayalalitha’s government started manufacturing several basic needs and selling to the people at lower costs. In the same way, unwilling to take the risk from the private products, KCR introduced the brand called ‘Telangana’, through which, his government has decided to produce few food items like the spice powder, turmeric powder, ginger, onion etc. The proposal was out, after noticing the continuous duplicate products in the recent times, that are costing the public’s health. The current initiative from the TRS government is expected to relax all the duplicates, as the government is aiming to provide never before quality in all the manufactured products, that too at the lower costs. Regarding this, the Telangana government is planning to set up a food park in Mulugu mandal, Tunki, Bollaram, Medak, in about 200 acres land. Along with this, the government already announced that, it is further planning to grow flowers, fruits and vegetables, completely in Telangana state itself, without having the need to import from other areas. After a historical victory in the recently held GHMC elections, it seems, KCR is clearing off the debts, people offered in the form of votes. A sustainable ruling like this, is expected to fetch more to the party, in the coming days.By Phani Ch

India is tolerant of intolerance- Amartya Sen February 13, 2016 10:04

India as a nation had become too tolerant of intolerance, said Amartya Sen, a Nobel Laureate and economist. Editors Guild of India memorial lecture organized Rajendra Mathur Memorial Lecture. Speaking at the occasion, Sen said the Indians have enough reasons to be proud of their traditional tolerance and plurality but have to work hard to preserve it. “The problem is not that Indians have turned intolerant. Infact to the contrary we have been much too tolerant of intolerance,” he said.Reminding about the attacks on writers and scholars recently, Sen opined that, when people in minority (of scholarship of community) are attacked by organized detractors,  they need India’s support.Lecturing about “The Centrality of the Right to Dissent”, Sen said, “This I am afraid not happening adequately right now and this did not happen adequately earlier as well. But then it did not start with the present government, though it has added substantially to restrictions already there.”Sen further said that, due to the relentless persecution led by a small organized group, the acclaimed painter, M F Hussain, was hounded out of India. Sen opined that, he could not get the kind of support that could have stopped his migration. “In this case, however the Indian government at least was not involved though it could have easily protected Hussain. Indian government’s complicity, however was much more direct when India became the first country in the world to ban Salman Rushdies’ Satanic Verses,” he said.Referring to the Dadri incident in which a man was lynched by a group, for allegedly storing beef in his home last year, clearing the air about it, Sen said that, the Constitution does not have anything against anyone eating beef, storing it in the refrigerator, even if there are few people, who are offended by the food habits of others. “Murders have occurred on account of hurt sentiments arising from private eating,” he said.Sen said most Indians, including Hindus like him, accept the food habits of those belonging to other groups and are ‘familiar and tolerant’ of other people’s religious beliefs. When asked about the solution for the ongoing intolerance issue in the country, Sen suggested three solutions. Firstly, to blame the Indian Constitution for what it does not say and next, not to allow a few of the colonial rules, under IPC go unchallenged and lastly, Sen said that, one should not be tolerant about intolerance which undermines our democracy.   By Phani Ch

Steve Waugh counters Shane Warne February 12, 2016 14:53

Hitting back at Shane Warne, upon his comments, Steve Waugh said, he was just doing his job as a captain, when he dropped the leg-spinner for a Test in the West Indies, 17 years ago.It is known that, a few days back, Warne criticized Waugh saying, he is the most selfish cricketer. He himself said that, the grudge was related to Waugh’s decision of dropping Warne from playing XI for the final Test, on a tour of the West Indies, 17 years ago.Responding to it, Waugh issued a short statement through the social media, which read, “I’m not justifying his comments with an answer.”Today he finally reopened up on the issue, explaining that, the decision to drop Warne was tough, but part of his job as the captain. “To be fair, not only Shane, any player I had to tell was dropped wasn’t easy,” Waugh said. “It wasn’t easy telling Adam Dale he was dropped for a Test match or Greg Blewett. There were a number of players I had to tell they weren’t playing. As a captain, that is the hardest thing to do. But it’s also why you’re the captain, because people expect you to make the tough decisions for the benefit of the team. You have got to do that at times and you have got to be prepared not to be liked by everyone,” Waugh added. Earlier in the week, Warne said that he was disappointed after Waugh dropped him, treating me as a scapegoat. Responding to this, Waugh said, “I guess, the main thing as a captain and leader, as long as people respect your decision, that is all you can ask.”“You have got to take a bit of a risk sometimes. It’s not always the obvious thing to do. Sometimes it can be gut feel, it can be based on facts…at the end of the day, you are a leader because people expect you to make a choice,” Waugh added.Previously, Waugh has admitted that his decision to dump Warne, cost him his friendship with the spin king. But in his book “The Meaning Of Luck”, he said that, it helped shape and define him as a captain.By Phani Ch
