Crime on Women in Mumbai rises

Crime against women in Mumbai increased by 59 percent according to a survey done by NGO Praja. Of the 22,580 citizens surveyed, 32% said they feel insecure living in Mumbai while 36% said they feel insecure while travelling from one place to another inside the city. The number of cases filed had seen a massive increase.

Rape cases were reported 432 for 2013-14 while molestation case rose to 1,209 and chain snatching increased to 2110. Ironically murder cases number decreased to 171 when compared to previous which stands at 202. However, the NGO said, the police department did a commendable job in encouraging complainants to come forward for reporting of crime.

Coming to the area wise, the survey said, North Central Mumabi is high sensitive region for crime against women. 734 burglaries, 1,598 thefts and 819 stolen vehicles were reported in April 2013-March 2014.
