Congress eyes UP by-polls

The Congress party is set to go alone in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections to test itself in the state. Twelve seats of legislators have been vacated as they are now representing the Lok Sabha and Congress is eyeing to win maximum seats out of the twelve.

By-polls will be held in Kairana, Lucknow (East), Bijnore, Thakurdwara, Noida, Saharanpur, Charkhari, Hamirpur, Nighasan, Sirathu, Balha and Rohnia constituencies however the schedule has not been announced so far.

Congress party went to the Lok Sabha elections with alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal [RLD] and Mahan Dal but could manage to win only two seats that too Congress presidents have bagged them. The High Command has already hinted to the state Congress leaders and workers that the party is looking to contest alone in the by-polls and also directed them to get ready. Madhusudhan Mistry has toured UP recently and held discussions with prominent leaders to sketch out various strategies.
