Hard Time for Employees in Govt Offices

It is difficult to a house wife to please her hubby who is good cook- a saying in Telugu goes in that line.  It is not an easy job to the employees to impress their hard working boss.  There is also another saying “Yadha raja tatha praja”- people of a state will behave according to the way their King does.

Modi who is personally hard working and result oriented, the administration naturally has to gear up to meet the brisk pace of Country’s head of administration.

The scenes of employees taking leisurely lunch at Delhi Gymkhana Club or Delhi Golf Club green lawns, late coming and working in slow process is a history in Delhi now after Modi’s instructions to the Secretaries of the Ministers to improve the quality of working and also work environment by making the offices clean removing the unwanted things in the corridors and insides of the office premises.

Employees of the Ministry of Defense have pasted their pledge to work on the notice board that they would report by 9.00 am.  This made the habitual late comers to check themselves and leave home earlier than they used to.

In the above backdrop, it is not surprising to see employees of PMO to work in late hours and skip a holiday too.  Some have cancelled their pleasure trips.  Wives of some of the senior employees are asked by them to manage problems at home on their own without looking for their help in domestic issues as they will be working late hours.

It is first time in the country as some of the observers say that the civil servants of the Government departments being pushed to work harder and for longer time and it is only due to their anxiety to match the enthusiasm of the newly formed Government to show results.

As per the instruction, no file has to stay for more than 48 hours on any table.    In some of the Ministries it was told that an explanation will be demanded if it is not complied with.  It made them work to complete the job but not go leave office as the office time is up.   The instructions in some of the Ministries also gave the guidelines to shorten the disposal period by talking to their collegues over phones instead of sending the files for clarification which causes delays in dealing with those files.

In case of consultation required between two wings, instructions are, not to talk through files but to talk personally to settle things whether it agreement or disagreement.  That way Ministers are simplifying the things to get the work done in time.

Looks like good days are ahead for the people of India to get their work done in time in Government offices.
