Dimple Yadav on an unopposed assembly run

The wife of Uttar Pradesh’s youngest Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, seems to add another feather to the family cap for walking to the assembly, unopposed. Ms Dimple Yadav had filed her nomination for the Samajwadi Party (SP) wielded by her father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav at the Kannauj constituency on Tuesday. The by-election on June 24 has been necessitated by the resignation of Ms. Yadav's husband and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

Earlier Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party had issued statements that they would not field candidates for the by-polls scheduled on June 24. Today the strong woman Mayawati led Bahujan Samajwadi party (BSP) also declared that it will not field any candidate in the constituency.

Apart from Ms. Yadav's, one more nomination, by Dashrath Shankar of Sanyukt Samajwadi Dal, was filed on Tuesday. SP swept its electoral rivals off their feet in March this year, posting a resounding victory in the assembly polls and winning 224 seats in the 403-member house.  The party held the statistic of having delivered the best performance in UP in two decades. That honor was held by Mayawati (BSP) for her 2007 performance when she won 206, the first to win a majority in the state since 1991. However this time she was ousted out of power by the ballot in a miserable way. (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
