Bachchans relieved from the Bofors attack

The Country’s top most celebrity couple were much relieved as their name was cleared from the infamous Bofors weapons deal ……..

To the best of the knowledge Bofors was the earliest scam that plundered the nation by a few millions, in the mid 80’s. The nation rocked and the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, alleged to have received a huge kickback, eventually cost him his power.  Unnecessarily just because of being a good friend to Mr Gandhi, Amitabh Bhachchan was involved in the allegations. But the whistle blower to the scam former Swedish police Chief Sten Lindstrom in an exclusive interview to website hoot.org says that Indian investigators during a trip to Sweden in 1990 "planted the Bachchan angle."  The actor, he adds, took a local publication that printed this news to court and won.

The Bachachan who had suffered humiliation on this ground since then, came out openly and thanked the whistle blower for delivering the truth. "The truth has finally come out, god is great," was Jaya Bachchan's reaction to a private TV channel. On his blog, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "No one shall be able to understand or even remotely fathom, the hours and days and months and years of the anguish of petulant blame that I had to go through." He says "Those that colluded in desperation still abound... they won momentarily. But lost ultimately. Lost position and strength and power yes, but importantly their conscience."

The Bofors case dates back to 1986, when Swiss arms manufacturer Bofors landed a 15 billion dollar contract to supply Howitzer guns to India. A year later, Swiss media began reporting that the company had paid massive kickbacks to Indian politicians and defense officials. (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
