Do you remember Nityananda Swamy who was the topic of the town when an alleged footage of his romantic episode appeared on the Internet and later in the media? Who would forget that self-style God man. To everyone’s surprise, Nityananda Swamy has become the 293rd pontiff of Madhurai Aadheenam, one of the famous Shaivite mutts in Tamilnadu. The 292nd pontiff of Madurai Aadeenam, Arunagirnatha Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal has announced this news at his Dhyanapeetam in Bangalore. He later placed a crown on Nityananda’s head to mark the coronation.
The 292nd pontiff has also declared that the 293rd pontiff will become the successor of the mutt and will therefore have the power over movable and immovable properties of mutt. It has to be mentioned here that the properties of aadheenam include 1,250 acres of land besides many properties in India and abroad.
It may be recalled that Nityananda allegedly appeared in compromising positions with South actress Ranjita.
The temple Madura Meenakshi is governed by Madurai Aadeenam and there are several temples that are affiliated to this mutt. Nithyananda said he would ensure that the aadheenam becomes an international religious centre and assured he would revive the shaiva tradition.
Whether he revives or not, God knows, let’s hope that he doesn’t appear in compromising positions. (Phani)
