Bicyclone 2013

In an attempt to make the city free from the pollution, GHMC, APIIC, HMR and Hyderabad Bicycling club jointly constructed a Bike Station, a cycle shelter in Gachibowli Hyderabad.  It was formally inaugurated on Sunday by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh ESL Narasimhan.

The Governor expressed his wish that the city called as cyber city will be called as cycle city soon.  He said that the use of cycle should be encouraged to check pollution in the city that is increasing day by day.  He said that the city of Hyderabad should be without motor vehicles in the coming 10 years period.  He asked the participants of the cycle show to continue using it further even after the photo session is over.

Afterwards a rally called “Biclone 2013” was flagged off by the Governor for 10, 25 and 60 kilometers cycling.  After flagging off the Governor also participated in cycling wearing helmet.  He was accompanied by Ministers Danam Nagender and Prasad Kumar and MLA Bikshapathi Yadav.

The program was also attended by City Mayor Majid Hussain, APIIC MD Jayesh Ranjan, Metro Rail MD SVS Reddy, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V.Anand, Former Chairman of  Hyderabad Bicycle Club D.V.Manohar, European Cycling Federation President and Corporators Avula Satyanaryana, Jagadeeswar Gowd and Ravinder Mudiraj.

The Governor rightly said that the show should not end there.  It should not be limited to the photo session.  Usually an event is forgotten after they go into daily routines get busy in other things which they think are more important.

Apart from keeping the atmosphere healthy the cycling also keeps the cycling person healthy.  It saves fuel and contributes towards National savings.  A cycle is such a light vehicle that the rider can carry it if it is required.

To promote the theme of cycling we may have to make some more occasions of that sort in which VIPs should participate to make it a popular event so that it will be covered by the media.

There are many plans if the authorities want to make it a popular theme.

At present a cyclist is given the least priority on the road.  A separate lane can be allotted on the road in to which no other vehicular traffic should be allowed.  A cycle with gears and tubeless tires can be subsidized by the Government.  So many other plans can be envisaged to make the city cycling popular.
