TRS to contest from Kovvur seat: KCR

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced that his party would field its candidate from Kovvur seat in Nellore district in the by-elections to be held on March 18.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Chandrasekhar Rao said that  if people from Seemandhra could participate in elections from Telangana region, then why people from this region could not win elections in Seemandhra. He said the TRS participation would also expose how voters in Seemandhra region treat Telangana candidates.

However, he said the candidate for Kovvur seat would be announced in two-three days after discussing the issue with other leaders in the party.

Speaking about Chandrababu Naidu, KCR said that the TDP president has been making statements about Telangana and TRS leaders due to the pause in the statehood agitation. "Naidu and other leaders will go underground when we revive the agitation in April," he said.

KCR claimed that all surveys done in the region have predicted a clean-sweep for TRS in the by-elections and that was reason why Naidu has been making comments about the TRS. He announced that the TRS would expose the scam and irregularities done due Naidu's regime as Chief Minister.

The TRS chief refuted the allegations leveled by Chandrababu Naidu that he owned 70 acres of land. He said he owned only 24 acres of land and would quit politics if Naidu proves his allegations. Instead, he asked Naidu to explain as to how his mother Ammanamma, who owned just two acres of land, gave a loan of Rs 50 lakh to Naidu's son Lokesh. He also sought details of sources of funding for Lokesh's education in Stanford University. He said about Rs 22 crore have been spent on Lokesh's education.
