Nellore Collector oversees rescue in Tamil Nadu Express
Nellore District Collector Sridhar immediately rushed to the spot of the accident and was overseeing the rescue operations being carried out. Chennai bound Tamil Nadu express from Delhi was involved in a fire accident at around 4.30 am while leaving Nellore Station (Andhra Pradesh). An alert Station Master sent the emergency message and halted the train. Coach S -11 had caught fire and nearly 40 are feared dead while the rest in the compartment are critically injured. Fire started due to a short circuit near a toilet of the coach, say sources.
The emergency services along with Police personnel rushed to the spot and resuce operations were in action. Instantly the fire fighting personnel cut the compartment from the adjacent compartments to avoid the spreading of fire. A special train with passengers will leave around 9.30 am to Chennai from Nellore, said railway sources.
The occupants of the miserable train were more from Vijayawada. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed shock and is expected to reach Nellore during the day to inspect the situation. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
