The reservation system was introduced by former chief minister Mayawati even after objection by the Allahabad High Court.
In a historic decision, the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh has scrapped the reservation-based promotion for the socially backward classes - SC and ST in the state government departments. The reservation system was introduced by former chief minister Mayawati even after objection by the Allahabad High Court. But now, the Akhilesh Yadav-led government reversed the system as per the Supreme Court verdict of April 27, which had quashed the consequential promotions in the State.
According to a senior official in the Government, as the Supreme Court has quashed the reservation in promotion, now there will be one seniority list and the promotion will be given as per the seniority list.
The decision to scrap the Mayawati's government's order got Cabinet approval through circulation and the government also decided to bring an ordinance to implement the policy with immediate effect.
