Scientists find culprit responsible for stress

Researchers have reportedly identified the culprit in the brain responsible for creating feelings of stress and anxiety. Termed 'misery molecule', the CRF1 creates stress and anxiety and may also play a role in depression.

The protein is located in the brain's pituitary gland. It works by triggering cells to release hormones that cause distress. The pituitary gland normally controls anxiety, depression and stress through the release of stress chemicals.

A UK medical company used powerful x-ray machines, best in the world, to study the gland. It would now be possible to create therapies that may reverse release of stress chemicals. Scientists say that a molecule that is specially designed for the purpose of blocking the CRF1 protein can effectively disable it. This opens up possibilities of reversing health conditions that arise from stress.
