Basic knowledge about Migraine...

Migraine is a form of recurrent paroxysmal headache often confined to one side of the head. It begins during childhood to adult life, and is frequently associated with gastric and sensory disturbances.

CAUSES: 
Anxiety, over work, emotional upsets, menopause, hypertension, premenstrual tension, food deprivation, too much chocolate or orange etc.

SYMPTOMS:

AGE: Young adults

SEX: common in females

TEMPERAMENT: Obsessional Migraine occurs regularly. It also seems to bear some relation to menstrual periods. There are usually certain symptoms like weakness, lassitude, depression etc. for few days.

There is pressure and vertigo. During the attack, the scalp is hypersensitive. Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting are also observed.

The pain in the head is most often right sided, in the temporal region. This can occur on both sides or can alternate. The patient is dull mentally. He is sensitive to noise. The pupils may be dilated or contracted. The face may be pale or flushed. As a rule, patient prefers to lie in a dark room and refuse food. It has been observed that the superficial temporal artery throbs vigorously and may be tender on palpitation. The headache may last 12 to 14 hours usually, but shorter to longer attacks may also occur.

TYPES OF MIGRAINE:

HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINE: 

Cerebral changes may persist sometimes, even if headache has subsided.

BASHAR MIGRAINE: 

When there is spasm of the basilar artery, there may be visual disturbances, headache and partial paralysis in lower limbs.

FASIOPLEGIC MIGRAINE: 

Recurrent facial palsy is associated with migraine.

RETINA MIGRAINE: 

In this condition, migraine is associated with occlusion of the retinal artery or any of the retinal artery or any of its branches.

POST THAUMATIC MIGRAINE:

Migraine may be seen in some cases of head injury.

MIGRAINOUS NEURALGI: 

Here the attacks are severe, but not long lasting. The eyes may be red and nostrils may be blocked due to congestion.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT: 

Patients should regulate their lifestyle so as to avoid both physical and mental fatigue. Rest is essential during the attack.

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES:

IRIS VER:

The patient vomits a bitter bilious substance and the vomiting gives relief to the pains in the head.

DAMIANA:

This is an excellent remedy for migraine. In severe cases, it may be given every half hour and patient will sleep after few doses.

SCUTELLARIA:

This is a good remedy for nervous sick headaches, which are causes by excitement and over exertion with frequent scanty urination.

TANGO:

Is used for neuralgic affections and migraine.

COCA:

In migraine which is the result of fatigue, weariness and exhaustion. Headache is preceded by flashes of light before the eyes and is accompanied by vertigo.

SANGUINARIA CAN:

Is used for right sided migraine.

SPIGELIA:

Acts better on left sided migraine.

Migraine is indeed a nightmare for the sufferers, therefore precautions has to be taken before it exceeds it's control. Migraine can be treated best, sometimes cured with homeopathy treatment but only if we follow the right instructions from the medical experts. That's possibly can bring back a pain free life for sure!
