Ingredient in garlic 100 times effective than antibiotics

A discovery published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy has stated that garlic is 100 times effective than a couple of antibiotics. The key ingredient found in garlic will fight food poisoning.  The compound name Diallyl Suphide that’s found in garlic will easily breach the protective layer formed by the bacteria to protect themselves. Therefore, intake of garlic will keep the stomach free of bacteria. This compound is said to be more powerful that erythromycin and ciprofloxaxin and even works in fraction of seconds.

Dr. Michael Konkel of Washington State University finds this work very exciting as the discovery proved that the natural compound has the capability to kill disease causing bacteria in the food-Campylobacter. This is not only most common bacteria in food-borne diseases in the USA but across the globe.

When a person is attacked by campylobacter, he/she feels abdominal pain, fever, cramps and diarrhea. It was also found that this bacteria was responsible for a paralyzing disorder - Guillain Barre syndrome.

Now that the research revealed interesting facts, compounds from garlic will apparently be extracted and made into drugs. It’s also advisable to take more garlic in the food. (Phani)
