First woman candidate files nomination for NRI Sabha

An NRI has become the first woman candidate for filing nomination for president post of NRI Sabha in Punjab. This Sabha aims at protecting and educating Indian women on their rights with emphasis on protection of young women in Punjab who get married to NRI. Fifty-one-year old Gurjeet Kaur Padha has reminded the way women are still subjected to domestic violence in foreign countries and not expressed her vain over the same.

Further, Gurjeet even said she visited many foreign countries and it was during her visit she noticed the harassment being faced by young women by NRIs who marry these women, taken them to foreign countries and apparently treat them as maids. Also, she said most of the cases go unreported since the women choose not to reveal this with anyone. She appealed to the women to focus and think on these issues before they choose to vote for NRI sabha.
