New legislation would be brought in place only for NRI s of Punjab. This was confirmed by NRI affairs minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia. He has said that Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act and Registration of Marriage Act would be the two new laws that would be implemented for the welfare of NRIs.

Stressing on the importance of these laws, Mr Bikramjit said these laws would put a check to human trafficking and also the illegal travel agents.  Further, he said all the travel agents, as per the new law, would be required to register themselves with the government of Punjab. To make a point he has said that it was Punjab, which will be the first state to implement such strict laws.

Talking on compulsory registration of marriage act, the minister stressed that this act would make it mandatory for every couple entering into wedlock to register themselves and get a marriage certificate. He opined that this law would put NRI s who enter into fraud marriages in soup.
