Indian killed in Megabus crash in Illinois

A fully loaded Megabus double decker carrying 81 passengers had slammed into an interstate bridge pillar in Illinois on Thursday which sent many passengers hurling out from their seats. This accident killed one Indian while several other were injured.

Aditi R Avhad, 24, an Indian was killed in the accident according to the State Police Trooper, Brad Lemrarr. She was traveling to Columbia, Missouri but it was not clearly know where she resided currently nor where she was traveling from. Her seat in the Megabus, which was going from Chicago to Kansas City, was also not known to the authorities.

Doug Francis, another trooper, said that over 38 people were transferred to the hospitals via ambulances and helicopter rescue crews from the bus that was completely unrecognizable in the front. People inside were soon receiving help after a bout of panicked screams. With the help of ladders, crews climbed inside the bus and rescued those who were trapped in the bus. A few other teams have provided first aid to the injuries on-site.

There is no news yet about how the incident could have happened but a few people suggested that a sudden flat tire could have caused the accident. Authorities are beginning their investigations in this regard to zero in on the cause of the accident.

The spokesperson from Megabus said that their thoughts and prayers go to the victims of those injured in the accident. Authorities at Megabus said that they would probe into the accident further and that they consider security to be their prime concern.
