2 NRIs to indicted for defrauding hundreds

Two NRIs in California were indicted by a federal court for defrauding hundreds of house owners and others via email. The court has also imposed a fine of $5,00,000. The duo will be sent to the federal prison where they would spend the remaining 20 years of their life in case they get convicted.

The accused are 36-year-old Sharanjit Kaur and 47-year-old Baljit Singh. Between 2010 and 2011, the duo operated several companies with an aim to defraud innocent people. They promised people that they would get loan for low interest rates besides providing debt consolidation services.

The Justice Department has even said that Kaur and Baljit had set up a customer care centre in India for their companies in the United States. Using fake names such as Anthony Jones etc, the Indian employees at the call centre would call up the customers in the United States to lure them.
