Why is KCR silent on that MLA? May 27, 2015 10:06

It is known that Osmania University students who alleged that the Swagath hotel is constructed on the OU land which is illegally possessed by TRS MLA Mutthi Reddy Yadagiri Reddy had attacked the hotel. But the thing is, though the Telangana Chief Minister KCR who is very well aware of this fact, is not able to take any action on such MLA, but arrested the students who attacked the hotel and also the secretariat. With this, there is an every chance of the issue to go more viral among the students.“When CM is more concerned about the OU lands and wanted them to use for the construction of the houses for the poor, then why he is silent on an MLA who illegally possessed 3 acres of OU land which costs few crores and constructed a hotel in it,” the students questioned CM. Are all TRS MLAs a part of illegal possession of OU lands? “Along with the CM, even the other MLA's are silent on the issue and from this it can be clearly estimated that all of those are involved in this illegal business. An immediate action should be taken by the Chief Minister regarding the issue, otherwise, the situations are going to be worse and till a proper action is taken, the hotel has to be closed,” they added Simha Garjana highlights Mutthi Reddy! On June 1st, the student unions who planned for a public meeting in the name of 'Simha Garjana', decided to highlight the issue of OU lands and Mutthi Reddy illegal possession of it. The unions warned that there is no question of going back, till the OU lands are out of the illegal possession.     By Phani

'Amit Shah' positive on AP special status May 27, 2015 09:38

During the bifurcation of the Telugu states, BJP government assured special status to Andhra Pradesh, but later, it is known that, the center took back the promise. But it seems to be like, BJP chief Amit Shah is rethinking on the issue. On the successful completion of one year of Modi's government at the center, the celebrations were held, and a few of the BJP officials participated in these celebrations. Speaking at the meeting, Amit Shah said, “the center is making all efforts towards the welfare of  the Andhra Pradesh state, recently we spoke to the AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and came to know about the situation of the state, so a proper decision would be taken very soon.” The warning by the oppositions is the result of special status? But previously, the senior leaders like Arun Jaitley, said that, except special status, anything would be given to the state. After this statement, the opposition parties and the AP state residents who were unhappy with the center's decision started opposing it. They even warned that, the oppositions will be increased in the coming days if there is no positive response from the center regarding the special status for AP. Now it seems to be like the reason behind Amit Shah statement might be this warning from AP state. How come Amit's decision changed in two days?On the other side, it is to be remembered that previously along with Venkaiah Naidu, even Amit Shah was against the special status and even brought the 14th finance commission issue in between. Not only this, in a recent interview for a Telugu newspaper, it can be clearly understood that Amit Shah was not clear about his decision about the special status. But, just within two days of that interview, how come he made a decision on such an important issue is the talk of the country now.     By Phani

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday stated that the Swedish Bofors guns are of good quality, but he doesn't want to say a word on President Pranab Mukherjee's remarks. So much of  controversy surrounded his comments that Bofors acquisition was a "media trial"."I can only certify that Bofors guns are good. I do not make any statement on President's statement. If you ask me about quality of Bofors guns, then they are good," Parrikar told reporters here.Earlier, President Mukherjee while giving an interview to a Swedish daily, says, "First of all - it is yet to be to be established that there was a scandal. No Indian court has established it. I was the defence minister of the country long after Bofors, and all my generals certified that this is one of the best guns we are having. Till today, Indian army is using it”."The so-called scandal which you talk of, yes, in the media, it was there. There was a media trial. But I'm afraid, let us not be too much carried (away) by publicity."However, the video of the interview shows no such comments being made by the President, who is scheduled to visit Sweden next month. The scam of procurement of 155mm howitzer field Bofors guns shook the then Rajiv Gandhi government and cause the defeat in the 1989 elections for Congress Government. - Manohar

Women brain changes after pregnancy May 26, 2015 18:17

Recent study has found that pregnancy and motherhood could stimulate certain permanent changes in the brain. "Our most recent research shows that previous motherhood alters cognition and neuroplasticity in response to hormone therapy, demonstrating that motherhood permanently alters the brain," said researcher Liisa Galea from University of British Columbia in Canada. The study focused on a specific brain region, called the hippocampus, which has important roles in memory and spatial ability, such as navigational skills.Lead author Dr. Liisa concluded that hormones have a profound impact on minds and pregnancy is a life-changing event, resulting in marked alterations in the psychology and physiology of a woman, so these factors should be taken into account when treating brain disorders in women. The research findings were presented at the 9th Annual Canadian Neuroscience Meeting.By Lizitha

Google focuses on 3 projects in Hyderabad May 26, 2015 17:59

Google is investing Rs 1,500 crore in a new campus in Hyderabad, reckoned to be its biggest outside the US. Speaking about the project, Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana's IT secretary said, “Google is focusing on three key projects from its upcoming Hyderabad campus, including its super-fast Google Fibre broadband services, Street View and Google Education". "Google Inc will shortly depute internal teams for driving all three activities from Telangana where it plans to build a new campus that will house some 13,000 staff," he further said."Google planned to invest Rs 1,500 crore in the campus rollout over the next four years for its growing local team". It was known that  the Telangana government delegation was led by IT minister KT Rama Rao which also included Sujai Karampuri, director (electronics) and Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri, Chief Relations Officer. Among them Ranjan was a key member of the delegation. However, there is no such official announcement from Google regarding the rollout investment details or its upcoming activities there. "On the campus side, it is still very early days, so we don't have all the details, but will share more as our plans come together," one of the company member said.On the other side, the Telangana government's claims, Google said, "it has no immediate plans to expand Google Fibre to India as it is still busy growing its presence in a number of US cities". Telangana's IT secretary Ranjan, however, maintained that Google would "shortly send an internal team to examine the pros and cons of rolling out its high-speed fibre broadband services in both urban and rural homes across the state". If the sources are to be believed, Google's internal team would examine the existing fibre topography of key cities and towns in Telangana and also explore infrastructure-sharing options since leveraging existing infrastructure would cut greenfield fibre broadband deployment costs for delivering affordable fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services.Till date, except in Kansas city, Google's ultra-fast fibre-based internet service is not available in any other place. But now the officials are planning to roll out in other US cities such as Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Provo, Raleigh-Durham, and Salt Lake City, along with 34 other cities.   By Phani

Super computers for advanced research May 26, 2015 17:49

India will be employing super computers, predominantly for defense research and predicting climatic changes by 2022. The grid-like setup of these research facilities have been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. Supercomputers will be having capacities ranging from 0.5 petaFlops to 20 petaFlops. (A petaFlop is the measure of a computer’s processing speed). One petaFlop machine is capable of one quadrillion mathematical computations per second. By the time this project begins its operations at full steam, the speed of the supercomputers will reach 50 petaFlops, that’s an impressive 50 quadrillion mathematical computation per second."The project, which costs around Rs. 4,500 crore is in its nascent stage. It will come up with association with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Department of Information and Technology (DIT). These super computers will be in different parts of the country," Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of DST, said. "We will be having these computers across the country where scientists can come and do their research. These can do calculations which your normal desktop or laptop cannot. It can help in defense simulation, computing, biology and material science and earth science," Sharma said. "Many companies have scientists doing their research. They need not go abroad for their research and can instead use these super computers," Sharma added. The areas of R&D to benefit from these supercomputers include defense, biology, weather forecast, climate change and early warning defense systems. Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC); the Indian Institute of Science (IISc); the Department of Science and Technology; and the Department of Electronics and Information Technology will be the prime beneficiaries of this project.Government of India has already started the process of setting up of 70 supercomputers in the country in the process to support advanced research in the different fields for use by the government agencies and also the private sector. The government, has to face challenges before the plan gets fully functional. The first challenge will be to build software and hardware infrastructure for such a large-scale project and make applications for these super computers.By Premji

Aam Aadmi Party's 100 days in Power May 26, 2015 17:12

Aam Aadmi Party founder and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has completed 100 days in Power and the muffler man holds a public meeting to mark 100 days of the AAP government amid comments over a notification giving Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung all powers over posting of officials including transfers. At a meeting of its legislators on Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party described the home ministry notification of Thursday as "unconstitutional", and “shadow boxing” the government has decided to call a special assembly session from May 26-27 to discuss the central order."The notification that the central government has brought is not only unconstitutional, but it is against the basic principles of democracy," the party said.Added another AAP legislator Alka Lamba: "If the chief minister doesn't have a right to appoint and suspend officials, then how is an elected government of Delhi supposed to fight corrupt officials?""After discussion (in the assembly), if needed, we will go to the court," she said."The anti-corruption helpline is in place to check corruption. Party MLAs are reaching out to the people and solving their problems. We will tell the people about the work the government is doing," says the party sources.AAP keeps tooting its own horn in a series of tweets -- about the continuous supply of power despite acute summer, steps taken to fight pollution, opening of a water treatment plant at Dwarka and a move to issue stamp vendor licenses online. It said that in a bid to control price rise, the Delhi government plans to procure 10,000 tones of potatoes and onions through government agency NAFED.It said it had provided relief to traders by allowing carry forward of refund of VAT and extending the date of filing R9 Form -- a long-standing demand of the city's trading community. The government also said frequent checks were made on government hospitals, transport buses and bus stations in a bid to ensure that users got the services they deserved. On the other hand, AAP leaders continue to attack Narendra Modi government for trying to run the Delhi government through proxy."Criticism is fine but agenda-driven journalism is wrong," he said. "Question us, criticise us, hang us if we are corrupt or wrong but don't spread false rumours," said Manish Sisodia said. - Manohar
