Gizmo World: Apple slashes iPad 2 prices

iPad turns affordable with its new policy to slash prices for Indian markets. The price slash could see the iPad in the common league. Increase in numbers, further slashes on anvil.

Immense activity seems to have been undertaken at the Apple head quarters and due consideration seems to be given to the vast potential markets of India. These were so far neglected by the company during the Steve Jobs era. This week the company released its latest iPad version, the new iPad and if sources are to be believed then the new gizmo will find its way in to the Indian markets as soon as May.  News to rejoice is that after the recent launch, the company proposes to slash the prices of its iPad 2 costs by marginal amounts to lure the Indian markets. As per sources the 16 GB Wifi-only is now priced at INR 24,500 and 16GB WiFi + 3G will be priced at INR 32, 900 (earlier it was INR 36, 900/), though it will take a few days to reflect the updated price at retail stores.

The ‘New iPad’ has a A5 quad core processor, 4G LTE, and a Retina Display. Retina Displays are famous for their high resolution. The new resolution on the retina display translates to 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi) and also features a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. The New iPad will also have a battery life of 10 hours on 3G, 9 hours on 4G. The New iPad is also capable of acting as WiFi hotspot for upto 5 devices! Among other announcements were a new 5MP camera called iSight and uses sensors from the iPhone4s boasting of 1080p recording. There seems to be no change in the form factor and is still thin, and still costs $499. For the 16GB WiFi version. It will be available in 3 different storage sizes 16, 32, 64 gb and will be available starting March 16th in U.S., UK, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Singapore and Austria.

Apple released the first iPad in April 2010, and sold 3 million in 80 days. During 2010, Apple sold 14.8 million iPads worldwide, representing 75% of tablet PC sales at the end of 2010.  By the release of the iPad 2 in March 2011, more than 15 million iPads had been sold—selling more than all other tablet PCs combined since the iPad's release.
