In a tragic incident, a 14-month-old baby boy was killed and 15 others injured when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus they were travelling in plunged into a canal in Kusumanchi mandal in Khammam the wee hours of Friday.According to the officials, the incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m. near Nayakangudem on Suryapet-Khammam State highway when the bus carrying 32 passengers was on its way to Manuguru from Hyderabad. The low water level in the irrigation canal of the Palair balancing reservoir under the Nagarjunasagar left bank canal system averted a major tragedy. The Manuguru-bound bus plunged into the canal after hitting the wall of the bridge across the irrigation channel, considered an accident prone area. A boy sleeping in the lap of his mother drowned in the canal after being flung out of the bus, which landed upside down in the channel. His mother and 14 other passengers, including the bus driver, escaped with multiple injuries. The police identified the deceased as Bhargav of Wyra. The driver reportedly told the police that he lost control of the bus due to mechanical failure of the vehicle’s steering tie rod. However, Vishnu, one of the injured passengers, blamed it on the driver for “negligent driving.” The Kusumanchi police shifted the injured passengers to the district headquarters hospital. KCR Demand Rajnath Singh to Hand over AP Bhavan to TS June 24, 2016 09:26

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday wrote to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He seeked transfer of the entire land in possession of AP Bhavan in New Delhi to the Telangana government as it belonged to Hyderabad.KCR wrote in the letter that the Andhra Pradesh government may be allotted some other land in New Delhi to set up its State Bhavan and Resident Commissioner’s office. Since only the buildings at this site were constructed with the common resources of Andhra Pradesh, the government of Telangana would compensate Andhra Pradesh to the extent of its share in the book value of these buildings in the ratio of population fixed for the two States, the letter stated. He also requested early action in the matter as the Telangana government wanted to start soon construction of Telangana Bhavan in a systematic and planned manner with adequate facilities, including a cultural centre for the people of Telangana living in the capital. He argued that the prestigious Hyderabad House and, now, AP and Telangana Bhavans were situated on 18.18 acres of land obtained by the erstwhile government of Nizam of Hyderabad from the Government of India (GOI) in three bits in 1917, 1928 and 1936 on payment as per the records of the then Foreign and Political Department of GOI. The Hyderabad House was later taken over by GOI to an extent of 7.56 acres in Pataudi House and 1.21 acres in an adjoining nursing institute were allotted to the then Andhra Pradesh government. Therefore, Rao said, these properties belonged to the then State of Hyderabad under the rule of VI Nizam which remained a separate state even after Independence. Hyderabad Becoming a Snake City! June 24, 2016 09:06

In a series of shocking incidents, nearly 1,007 snakes were rescued in Hyderabad out of which 457 were cobras. Snakes being rescued have become a daily affair. On Wednesday night a six-feet-long python was found in front of the Banjara Hills traffic police station which was rescued. On Thursday, four cobras were rescued from different parts of the city.At Indira Park a snake was spotted inside a car recently, while a rat snake was found at a house in Shahalibanda, and a python was seen crawling along the road near a gated community in KPHB. Nearly half of the snakes rescued are venomous cobras, followed by non-poisonous rat snakes.Last year 3,500 snakes were rescued and once again half of them were cobras. Not surprisingly, the Osmania General Hospital gets 60-90 snake-bite cases every month and the figure increases during monsoon. In Telangana, snakes can only be rescued by Forest officials or by volunteers of Friends of Snakes Society.Mr Avinash Visvanathan, general secretary of FoSS, said, “While one might think that the population of snakes has increased in the city, there is no study to establish that. It might be also due to fragmentation and destruction of snake habitats, resulting in frequent snake-human conflicts.”Dr Shrirang Abkari, consultant physician for a private hospital said, “If bitten by a snake one should rush to a hospital.Swelling, redness, bleeding, breathing problems and paralysis are some of the symptoms of a bite by a venomous snake. Sometimes people tie a cloth really hard around the bite area or try to suck out the poison, which should not be done. The affected organ should be kept immobile.” Also Read: 186 snakes found in a house in UPBy M. Divya Shri
